Texas is a very long race and offers tons of dominator point potential. This makes hitting on multiple dominators vital. Texas is an extremely hard track to make passes on and as a result, means any driver who gets out front can dominate for a while. The best example of this is Austin Dillon staying out on old tires and winning the race. You will want to try playing at least 2 dominators for this race but really shoot for 3 potential doms. Obviously, Harvick will get a lot of attention starting where he does. The balance for me comes with trying to play those multiple doms but also trying to hit on the place differential stud plays like Jimmie Johnson and Clint Bowyer.
Favorite DK Play: Jimmie Johnson
Jimmie had such a fast car here in July. He proceeded to wreck it but it was fast. He was marching his way towards the top 5 at a track where passing is really hard. If they bring that speed again this weekend then Jimmie has a monster upside from 26th starting position. I like him paired with two top tier dom threats.
FanDuel
While I expect we could see a similar two dominator strategy win for FD, I can justify a one dominator strategy if all the main place diff plays hit. Harvick is going to be the crucial play this week on FD. His salary is so much that he really limits what you can do with a 2nd dominator. If you play a 2nd dominator then you have to play 2 low tier value options. Of course, if he leads 200 laps then he is a must-have. For our DS setting, I would roll with at least 1 for this race. Too many mid-tier options with place diff potential this week. If you are an MME person, I would recommend running the DS twice. 75 lineups with 1 dom and 75 lineups with at least 2. You can play around with those numbers. I wouldn’t be surprised if either strategy won this week.
Favorite FD Play: Ryan Preece
When you are making lineups for FD this week you will have to find a driver to save salary with. He starts 29th and I believe he will have top 20 upside. He wrecked and finished last here in July but last year he had finishes of 22nd and 23rd. As a salary saver, he works really well and if he cracks the top 20 then I expect he contends for the optimal. Before last week, Preece had finished top 20 in 6 straight races.
