Kansas Speedway

This week the NASCAR Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway. Kansas is a 1.5 mile track in which there are multiple natural grooves and even some tire wear.  Long run speed is important which makes for better racing.  Kansas’ best attribute is that it actually rewards mechanical grip. Teams who hit on the setup have the ability to benefit. It is also a track where the driver can make a difference. It is going to be very, very cold and possibly rainy this weekend and I believe that will have a big impact on the racing.

DraftKings

This is a very tough race to call. We have seen numerous different leaders over the course of this year on 1.5 mile tracks. That includes 6 drivers leading between 27 and 57 laps at Kansas in July. Penske is good here. JGR is great. Hamlin has won two straight here and of course Harvick is a threat everywhere. You will likely want two dominators but potentially getting 3 doms who can all finish top 8 or so might be the play. It is a tough call for me this week on who that main guy will be. There is also the fact that Kyle Busch starts 20th and has top 5 upside. You could do two doms and KB as well but I am sure that will be a bit chalky unless you reach on a potential dominator. There are only a couple obvious place diff plays this week so it will be tough to avoid that chalk. Your best bet might be trying to hit on the Matty D, Almirola, Custer, Austin Dillon type plays who can potentially finish top 10 and will be a lot lower on the ownership numbers.

Favorite DK Play: Aric Almirola

Almirola has finished top 10 in 17 of 32 races in 2020. In terms of 1.5 mile tracks, he finished 17th at Vegas recently but before that he had finished top 10 in 5 straight. That includes a 6th here at Kansas. He also finished 6th or better in 4 of the 5 race that were 2-mile+ in length. I think his 16th starting spot offers him a decent upside and his price is very favorable.

FanDuel

This is such a difficult race for FanDuel. Not only are there like 10 drivers who can win this race, there are also 10 mid tier drivers who all have the same type of upside. I feel liek you could make 500 lineups and still not hit on the optimal. One driver I am rather highon for FanDuel though is Kyle Busch. Because the dominator points won’t matter as much, I believe Kyle Busch and his place differential points becomes even more viable. I will look to pair him with another top tier driver who has a potential to dominate and win. SO 5 lineups all with KB and then one each with Hamlin, Harvick, Kes, Logano, Chase type thing. Not a strategy you have to play but just where my head is at. This is the type of race that can be fantastic to watch considering all the possible outcomes and where we are with the playoffs but it can be a nightmare to predict for DFS

Favorite FD Play: Kyle Busch

7 top 5s here in his last 11 races. Led 52 laps here in July and finished 3rd last fall. I just like the place diff play instead of trying to attack two dominators. He will be my highest owned driver.
