Full Court Press Breakdown for NBA DFS 8/13:

Washington Wizards @ Boston Celtics

Vegas Total:

Vegas Spread:

We kick things off with the early game! Starting with the Wizards, they should play the guys that they’ve been playing in the bubble here so nothing new which is probably a good thing. Thomas Bryant’s minutes have come down while his price tag has come all the way up to $8k, I’m not going to pay that price for him here when he’s not getting 30 minutes. Troy Brown cooled down last game but otherwise has been playing very well, I like him as a secondary option. Rui Hachimura plays a ton of minutes and does about the most average production there is. I don’t think he has the ceiling I’m looking for so he’s more of a secondary cash play. Lastly, Ish Smith and Jerome Robinson are the guards you want from this team as Robinson has overtaken Shabazz Napier’s role. Robinson has 30+ DraftKings points in three of his last four games, tough to ignore that. From the Celtics, we’re going to have a mess as the Celtics are sitting their starters here. We’ll need to wait on a starting lineup to see who exactly we should be on but guys like Robert Williams, Brad Wanamaker, Semi Ojeleye, Carsen Edwards, and hell maybe even some Tacko Fall come into play. If they start, Robert Williams and Carsen Edwards would be my favorite options due to the usage and fantasy points per minute they put up.

5-star play: Ish Smith, Jerome Robinson, Robert Williams, Carsen Edwards (if both are starting)

4-star play: Troy Brown, Brad Wanamaker, Semi Ojeleye

Deeper Value: The Celtics

GPP Sleeper: Thomas Bryant, Tacko Fall, Rui Hachimura, Shabazz Napier

Sacramento Kings @ Los Angeles Lakers

Vegas Total:

Vegas Spread:

Neither of these teams has anything to play for so trusting either of these coaches to play who you think they will will likely prove to be difficult, but we’ll give it a go at the very least. From the Kings, we know that De’Aaron Fox and Richaun Holmes are out which should open up nice minutes and opportunities for Corey Joseph, Nemanja Bjelica, and Harrison Barnes. Joseph played 37 minutes last game on his way to 20 DraftKings points, he’s not an exciting play by any means and I think there will be better value today. Bogdan Bogdanovic and Harrison Barnes took over last game with these guys out and make for solid plays again here. While I like Bjelica to slide over and play some five and grab some more rebound equity. From the Lakers, LeBron James is probably for this game while Anthony Davis is questionable and honestly, neither of them should be playing here. If they do play it will likely be for a half so just be wary of that while making lineups and the risk associated with them. This is a great game for guys like Dion Waiters, JR Smith, and Quinn Cook to take over and put up some fantasy production, I like them all as GPP options and likely won’t get to much of the superstars. The one case I will get to LeBron is if Davis sits, I think he can do enough damage in one half to make it worth it.

5-star play: Bogdan Bogdanovic, Harrison Barnes

4-star play: LeBron James (If Davis is out), Dion Waiters, JR Smith, Quinn Cook, Nemanja Bjelica

Deeper Value: Corey Joseph, Quinn Cook

GPP Sleeper: LeBron James, Anthony Davis

Milwaukee Bucks @ Memphis Grizzlies

Vegas Total:

Vegas Spread:

Starting with the Bucks, Giannis Antetokounmpo is suspended for this game after headbutting Mo Wagner (let’s be honest, he’s been needing one). I would think the plan is to play the starters, other than Giannis, for the first half and let the scrubs come in for the second half. Take that information as you will, if you think Eric Bledsoe can get you the value you need in that time frame then run with it. Frank Mason is probably my favorite Bucks option, he’s been killing it off the bench and should see even more minutes here, he did see a price boost, but for good reason. Pat Connaughton will likely start for Giannis and has scored at least 20 DraftKings points in three straight games and makes for a nice mid-to-low range option. Lastly, you can make a case for DJ Wilson and Sterling Brown as they should get run with the scrubs in the second half as well. From Memphis, they actually need to win this game so I expect they go all out. Ja Morant dropped 57 DraftKings points last time out and against Milwaukee’s second/third unit, I like him again here even at an elevated price tag. Jonas Valanciunas bounced back nicely last game and should be able to what he wants here when Brook Lopez exits this one, he makes sense as well. Dillon Brooks and Brandon Clarke are both playing solid minutes and performing just as you would think, they make for nice options as well.

5-star play: Ja Morant, Jonas Valanciunas

4-star play: Dillon Brooks, Brandon Clarke, Pat Connaughton, Frank Mason

Deeper Value: Pat Connaughton

GPP Sleeper: Eric Bledsoe, Khris Middleton, Brook Lopez

Dallas Mavericks @ Phoenix Suns

Vegas Total:

Vegas Spread:

Starting with Dallas, they don’t have anything to play for here as they’re locked into the seven seed in the West. Both Kristaps Porzingis and Seth Curry are questionable here and I would imagine they play it safe and just let them rest. Luka Doncic probably shouldn’t play a ton of minutes here and I could see them playing the same card as the Bucks and just letting him play the first half, but he’s the kind of guy that can get you there in that amount of time, raw points will be a thing on slates like this where we have all the value you could imagine. Trey Burke is a guy that I would imagine they give some heavy run to as they’re not so committed to him and shouldn’t get heavy run in the playoffs, I like his ability to put up fantasy points in a hurry. Other than him we may see some Boban Marjonovic conditioning minutes and Delon Wright should see some minutes as well. From the Suns, they are looking to go a perfect 8-0 in the bubble and need a win here as they fight for the eighth seed. Devin Booker has put up back-to-back 50 point outings and is a guy I’ll go right back to here as he should get all the minutes he can handle and put the team on his back. DeAndre Ayton hasn’t looked good in his past two games but they’ll need him in a must-win game, I like going right back to him in hopes it keeps his ownership down. Ricky Rubio and Mikal Bridges both make for solid cash plays while Cam Johnson is more of a GPP option if he ends up playing.

5-star play: Devin Booker, DeAndre Ayton, Ricky Rubio

4-star play: Luka Doncic, Trey Burke, Mikal Bridges

Deeper Value: Trey Burke, Delon Wright

GPP Sleeper: Boban Majonovic, Cam Johnson

San Antonio Spurs @ Utah Jazz

Vegas Total:

Vegas Spread:

Starting with the Spurs, they need a win here as they’re one of the teams fighting for that final seed in the West. DeMar DeRozan looked great last time out and I expect he does the heavy lifting here as he tries to get his team a win, I like him for cash games, as he hasn’t really shown enough upside for this price tag in GPPs. Dejounte Murray is more of a GPP option due to his production and minutes volatility. I do like Derrick White even though his production has fallen off over his past two games but he’s been very solid in the bubble. Lastly, Keldon Johnson had the best game of his young career last time out, he looks like a guy that they want to give minutes to and makes sense as a GPP option. From the Jazz, they could theoretically move up a seed to avoid the Clippers with a win and a Thunder or Rockets loss but they’ve already ruled Rudy Gobert and Mike Conley out, so I’m not sure how hard they’ll push it. That said, Donovan Mitchell played a massive 47 minutes last time out against the Nuggets which makes me think he could be around 30 minutes here. If that’s the case I’ll certainly have interest, we’ll have to keep an eye out and see if he’ll be restricted at all. With Gobert out, we can hop right on the Tony Bradley train! Ed Davis got the start last time Gobert was out which makes no sense and if that happens again here I’m just going to go with Bradley regardless, he’s the better and younger basketball player. He can put up fantasy points in a hurry and would be a top value of mine. I would think we see Emmanuel Mudiay pick up some minutes here as well with Conley out, he’s got at least 20 DraftKings points in two straight games.

5-star play: DeMar DeRozan, Dejounte Murray, Tony Bradley

4-star play: Donovan Mitchell

Deeper Value: Tony Bradley, Emmanuel Mudiay

GPP Sleeper: Keldon Johnson, Jordan Clarkson

Portland Trailblazers @ Brooklyn Nets

Vegas Total: 236.5

Vegas Spread: Por -9.5

Starting with the Trailblazers, it’s Damian Lillard’s world and we’re just living in it. The man went bananas last game dropping 84 DraftKings points giving him two 80 point games in his last four. He’s now over $11k, but they need to win again here, however, I don’t see this game being as competitive as his last few but he’s still a good play with CJ McCollum nursing an injury. Speaking of McCollum, he’s questionable here and it wouldn’t shock me if they gave him a rest before the weekend starts up. If he does play, he’s more of a secondary play after having a pretty bad game last time out. I think we can go right back to Jusuf Nurkic here, centers against the Nets is something I’ve been targeting all season, why stop now? Lastly, Carmelo Anthony and Gary Trent Jr. make for solid GPP/secondary options as well. From the Nets, they’re locked into the seven seed so they don’t have a lot to play for here, however, it looks like their starters are available for this one. The fact that they’re all available makes me nervous because they could very easily sit LeVert, Allen, etc. halfway through the game. We’ll have to see if any news comes out on them, but for now, they’re more GPP options than anything.

5-star play: Damian Lillard

4-star play: CJ McCollum, Jusuf Nurkic, Carmelo Anthony

Deeper Value: TBD

GPP Sleeper: CJ McCollum, Gary Trent Jr, Caris LeVert, Jarrett Allen

New Orleans Pelicans @ Orlando Magic

Vegas Total:

Vegas Spread:

This is an ugly one, neither team is playing for anything as the Pelicans are eliminated and the Magic have secured a first-round matchup with Milwaukee. But, we’ll start with the Pelicans nonetheless. Jrue Holiday, Brandon Ingram, and Zion Williamson are all out here which will open up a ton of minutes and usage in this offense. Here is how the rest of the team grades out with these guys off the court;

  • Lonzo Ball – 20.9% usage rate; 1.05 fpm
  • Nickeil Walker-Alexander – 25.3% usage rate; 0.99 fpm
  • JJ Redick – 25.2% usage rate; 1.37 fpm

My favorite play would be Lonzo Ball here, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Alvin Gentry pulls out all the tricks on this one as this is likely his last game as a head coach for the Pels. That said, we may see a big Walker-Alexander or Jaxson Hayes game, it’s really hard to tell at this point, so keep an eye out for a starting lineup. The Magic will also be without a handful of guys and will finally have a chance to rest some guys, so I wouldn’t go too wild on Nikola Vucevic even though they’ll be missing Aaron Gordon, Evan Fournier, Terrence Ross, and Jonathan Isaac. We’ll need a starting lineup here but I can’t imagine I get a whole lot of anything here, there is better value on this slate in my opinion. That said, things change quickly in the bubble so make sure to watch that Breaking News Feed and jump in the slack chat for up to date information!

5-star play: None at the moment, waiting on starting lineups

4-star play: Lonzo Ball (could be moved up to 5 star if not being restricted), Nikola Vucevic, JJ Redick, Nickeil Walker-Alexander

Deeper Value: Nickeil Walker-Alexander

GPP Sleeper: Lonzo Ball, JJ Redick, Nikola Vucevic, Jaxon Hayes, Markelle Fultz

NBA Lock of the Day: Tony Bradley (DK – $3.4k; FD – $3.9k)

Happy Tony Bradley day! With Rudy Gobert out, Bradley is a guy that I get to often, he puts up great fantasy production in a hurry. Ed Davis may get the start here as he did last time Gobert was out, but Bradley is the guy you want he’s the better and younger player. With Gobert off the court this season Bradley is averaging 1.14 fantasy points per minute and gets a pretty nice matchup with the Mavs. You can’t really beat this price tag so go get yourself some Tony Bradley! Tweet me (@MadnessDFS) your lock predictions and if your player gets over 6.5x I’ll give you a shoutout on Twitter, let’s have some fun with this!
