Daytona Road Course

The NASCAR Cup Series makes its way Daytona for ago at road course racing. The layout is used yearly for the 24 hours of Daytona sports car race. There will be one change from the normal layout for these races which is an added chicane to the front stretch in between turn four and pit lane.  This is being done to slow entry speeds into turn one. Overall, this road course isn’t very technical and should be relatively easy to adapt to for the drivers. That being said drivers with track time here racing sports cars will have an edge on the field. For example, Kyle Busch ran the 24 hours of Daytona here in January. There will be no practice or qualifying for these races. It will be hard to predict this race and how teams/drivers will perform without seeing them run a single lap on the track. Using past series road course data will be the best place to start for these races.

DraftKings

There are so few dominator points available for this race that I will not be focusing my lineup building on that at all. I will instead try focusing on the drivers who I believe have the best finishing upside based on past road course races. Place differential points will be key. This is a hard race to predict overall so I will really focus on other Cup Series road course races, especially The Roval, which I believe will give us our best look into who can succeed this weekend.

Favorite DK Play: Alex Bowman

Bowman is starting 27th this week and while I don’t consider him an elite Road Course driver it is too hard to ignore his place differential upside. His worst finish since joining HMS on a road course is 14th. He finished 2nd at the Roval last fall and 4th the year before that. I think there is huge upside with Bowman at a solid mid range price.

FanDuel

Very similar to DK in the sense that I am not interested in dominator points. There are a total of 6.5 dominator points available for this race. Because place differential doesn’t score as well on FD compared to DK, I will be leaning a little more on the top end drivers that will finish top 5. There are a couple drivers who can cover both place diff and finishing position upside like a Brad Keselowski. I think for FD it is all about getting the very best road racers and playing the history on road course.

Favorite FD Play: Chase Elliott

Chase has been unbelievable on the road courses for the last couple of years. The team attributes it to a test from a couple of years ago where the team found something setup wise that really separates themselves from the pack. He has won the last two road course races and has three wins overall. I think he should be the favorite for the win this week.
