Atlanta Motor Speedway

This week the NASCAR Cup Series will make the trip to Atlanta Motor Speedway. This is the track that NASCAR was at when word came down that the season was postponed. It feels so good to be able to get this race in particular done. Normally, Atlanta has been run in the spring under much cooler temps. We will see a very different race track than we have in recent years. Tire wear should be even higher than usual and speeds should fall off a ton. We usually see lap times fall off 3 to 4 seconds per lap over the course of a green flag run. Because of this long run speed is absolutely vital. The Atlanta race last year did not use the full low HP package last season so there should also be some differences in how the cars drive from last season. Cautions are few as are DNFs and we usually see extremely long runs.

Pit selection:

  • Order based on finishing position from the May 31 race at Bristol, followed by new entries in order of points.

Starting lineup:

  • Starting Positions 1-12: Random draw from charter teams in those positions in owner points
  • Positions 13-24: Random draw from charter teams in those positions in owner points
  • Positions 25-36: Random draw from charter teams in those positions in owner points

Competition Caution:

We should expect an early competition caution around lap 30. Tire wear is high so NASCAR will want to give teams a chance to look at everything fairly early into the first run.

DraftKings

As always with DraftKings nailing who the dominators are will be key. We have seen many instances of one main dominator (usually Harvick) in the past. I believe for this race though we should expect multiple dominators. I would recommend running Atleast 2 doms in the Domination Station. DK has really given us some interesting pricing this week. This will allow us to play 3 and maybe even 4 top tier drivers. Because tires mean everything and we will likely see a bunch of long green flag racing, I will look at the drivers who have been good on the long run in 2020. The Hendrick cars seem good all around and this feels like another race where we should be jumping on them. As always the Gibbs cars continue to have great long run speed, and of course, Harvick and Keselowski are great here and should be favorites as well.

Favorite Stud Play: Martin Truex $9,600

Truex starts by giving us some place differential potential starting 11th. 8th or better in 7 of the last 8 Atlanta races. Top 5s with THREE different teams. He is perhaps the best in the sport at taking care of his tires and maintaining long run speed. The perfect driver for Atlanta. Finished 2nd here in 2019. Don’t really care if he leads since his price allows you to pair him with any driver who may do so. Fast laps and a top 5 is what I am looking for here.

Favorite Value Play: Cole Custer $6,100

DraftKings must have been drunk when setting this price. Top 15 upside starting 31st. Finished 2nd here in the Xfinity race in 2019. The best value on the slate.

FanDuel

There are a decent amount of laps in this race so we will look to find that main dominator. Outside of that, it will be all about those top 10 finishers. There aren’t as many drivers with obvious place differential upside and top 10 upside like we have been given in recent weeks. Besides trying to hit with Harvick, Keselowski, and Elliott as high priced dominators, I believe really attacking the mid tier priced guys like Blaney, Johnson, Byron, Jones, and Matty D is where this slate will be won. These are all drivers who have shown great speed all year and besides Blaney all offer decent place diff. points as well. Lower level teams have zero upside in this race. Look to play the absolute best teams.

Favorite Overall Play: Erik Jones $9,000

Love Jones here at only $9,000. He has top 5 upside from 14th position. Finished 11th and 7th here since joining JGR and he has looked great on the long run in 2020.

NASCAR on SuperDraft

We are two weeks into NASCAR on SuperDraft and already we have shown that we are the ones to beat. We were all over the top of the leaderboards with Shaptown88 leading the way across all the contests. For this race, we have been given completely different multipliers. The field is MUCH tighter and this brings everyone into play. For the Champion Spot you will want that main dominator. Anyone over 100 laps led should be in the winning lineup unless they have issues and don’t finish well. Recently, we have really been attacking the high multiplier punt plays due to the laps completed points. This is no longer a focus. We will look to play the highest finishers with some good place differential. Mid pack multipliers will be key.
