Homestead-Miami Speedway

Homestead is a 1.5 mile track where drivers can utilize every lane from the bottom all the way to the top of the track.   The track surface is incredibly abrasive and wears tires out quickly. This makes long run speed ultra important. Tire fall off will be 3 to 4 seconds per lap by the end of the green flag run. This is going to be very similar to what we experienced at Atlanta just a week ago. This weekend we will see TWO Xfinity Series races. One on Saturday and one on Sunday. Weekend procedures for these races will be later in the article. As for the Truck Series, they will have just the one event on Saturday. Miami has normally held its races in late November with cooler track and air temps and usually held at night. The two Xfinity races will be held during the day. It will be interesting to see how this will impact things.

Weekend Preview

For starters, we have to mention that Dale Earnhardt Jr will be in 8 car for race one on Saturday and Daniel Hemric will drive the #8 on Sunday. Hemric will have to start the race from the rear of the field but will be scored from where the starting position would have been post inversion. This will go for anyone else swapping drivers between the two events. For both races, I will be looking to play 2 dominators and I would recommend utilizing an “at least 2” setting in the domination station. We usually see extremely long runs here which leads to numerous cars going a lap down. Last year the race finished with only 8 cars on the lead lap and 16th being 2 laps down. I would highly recommend playing the better cars and drivers for this event. Race one will give us tons of insight into how to attack race two.

Race Procedure

RACE ONE

  • Pit selection:
    • Order based on finishing position from the June 6 race at Atlanta, followed by new entries in order of points.

Starting lineup:

  • Positions 1 -12: The first 12 NXS Teams based on the Adverse Conditions Line Up Eligibility will be assigned starting positions 1st – 12th using a random draw.
  • Positions 12 – 24: The next 12 NXS Teams based on the Adverse Conditions Line Up eligibility will be assigned starting positions 12th- 24th using a random draw.
  • Starting positions 25 – 36: The next 12 NXS Teams based on the Adverse Conditions Line Up eligibility will be assigned starting positions 25th -36th using a random draw.
  • Any vehicles that are eligible for the Event in position 37th – 40th will be assigned starting positions based on their order of eligibility.

Competition Caution:

We should expect an early competition caution for RACE ONE around lap 15-20. Tire wear is high so NASCAR will want to give teams a chance to look at everything fairly early into the first run. I do not believe we will see a comp caution for race two.

RACE TWO

Pit selection:

  • Order based on finishing position from the June 13 race at Homestead, followed by new entries in order of points.

Starting lineup:

  • Positions 1-15: Invert the top 15 from the June 13 race at Homestead
  • Positions 16-40: In finishing order from the June 13 race at Homestead, followed by new entries

Favorite Top Tier Play: Chase Briscoe

Briscoe was great at both Darlington and Atlanta. Both those tracks share one commonality with Homestead and that is extreme tire wear. Over the course of the race at Atlanta we saw Briscoe work his way to the front and was looking like the man to beat until a speeding penalty on the last stop ruined Briscoe’s chances. He finished 3rd here last November after leading 14 laps while his teammate Custer finished 2nd after leading 15 laps.Briscoe also won here in the truck series in 2017 in what was the final race for Brad Keselowski Racing. He will be heavily owned of course but I think you will need him if you want to take down any contest.

Truck Series

Quick Facts

Date: June 13th

Race: Saturday 7:30 pm ET.

Laps: 134 Stages: 40/80/134

Drivers: 40

Defending Champion: Austin Hill

AVG. # of Cautions: 4 excluding stage breaks

AVG DNF’s: 4.5 per race

Race Preview

Kyle Busch and Chase Elliott will race yet again this week. This will, of course, make them the focus of all lineups. Because Homestead has been the Playoff finale for the Trucks, Busch hasn’t made a start here since 2014. He could be a little off what we normally expect from him.  Or he could absolutely destroy the field. For this race, I will look to play two dominators and will run an “at least 2” dominator setting on the DS. Austin Hill is a very interesting play considering how badly he destroyed the field last November here. We see very few incidents and DNFs here so true punts (drivers in bad equipment) are going to be borderline unplayable. We will look to attack cheap value plays that drive higher quality of equipment.

Race Procedure

Pit selection:

  • Order based on finishing position from the May 26 race at Charlotte, followed by new entries in order of points.

Starting lineup:

  • Starting Positions 1-10: Random draw of teams in those positions in owner points
  • Positions 11-21: Random draw of teams in those positions in owner points
  • Positions 22-32: Random draw of teams in those positions in owner points
  • Any vehicles that are eligible for the Event in position 33rd – 40th will be assigned starting positions based on their order of eligibility.

Competition Caution:

We should expect an early competition caution around lap 15-20. Tire wear is high so NASCAR will want to give teams a chance to look at everything fairly early into the first run.

Favorite Truck Series Play: Todd Gilliland (Besides the obvious Kyle Busch play)

I was very unsure about Gilliland coming into the year but I simply can not ignore the speed this team has had. 7th at Vegas and 4th at Atlanta and was a top 5 truck at Charlotte before getting into a wreck. He will start 18th and based on everything we have seen should contend for a top 5.  Offers great place differential ability from his starting spot. I like pairing him with your favorite main dominator.
