Welcome again fellow fight fans to a Saturday Night of UFC action. This time we have a 12-fight card taking place in Las Vegas, Nevada. There are several very close matches on this card which will make for some interesting choices in your tournament builds. But, that’s not what this article is about. My goal is to help navigate you through this interesting card and find some solid fighters to begin your cash game construction with.
For you 1st time readers, welcome and I hope you enjoy the article. For all you regular readers, you will notice a change. Moving forward I am going to gear this article for cash games. But a major point we make here at DFS Army is proper bankroll management. A major part of that is, of course, cash games. It may not be the sexiest way to build your bankroll but, over time it can be the most consistent. MMA Cash Game Basics for DFS
In cash games, unlike tournaments, we are trying to build a solid floor with our lineups. Many times that may mean using a fighter with great odds to win a match or taking someone who is severely mispriced in a solid spot. Cash games are often times card dependent. For example, if a fighter is expected to be chalky in cash games and I feel they are in a good spot I have no problem eating the chalk and just rostering him. After all, he’s chalky for a solid reason. One major difference between cash and tournament play is getting past your aversion to play the chalk. Often times, the chalk makes a lot of sense. (I’m going to use the word “chalk” a lot, if new, chalk is slang for “popular player.”) If, you ever have any questions pertaining to cash games feel free to reach out to me on Twitter or if you are a VIP shoot me a dm.
DFS MMA UFC On ESPN 248 Cash Core Plays
Israel Adesanya (-260) 9.2k
Adesanya is a fantastic striker and lands at 4.47 Significant Strikers (SS’s) per minute. Not only does he land at a solid rate but, he is very quick on his fight and often times his opponents have trouble hitting him. Even with Vegas leaning on this fight ending Inside The Distance (-150), they do think it will enter the later rounds (-127 fight goes over 3 1/2 rounds). That means Adesanya will have at least 3+ rounds to accumulate DraftKings points via his striking. I see no reason he doesn’t put up over 100+ DraftKings points in a win and I think he makes a great play in cash games on this card.
Mark Madsen (-215) 9k
Madsen is an Olympic Silver Medalist in Greco Roman Wrestling. Expect him to land multiple takedowns (TD’s) and advance positioning points on way to a decision win. Even in a decision win I think Madsen has solid upside with the way DraftKings scores wrestlers (5 points per TD and 3 points for advancing position). All this sets up for him to have a solid floor and in turn makes him a solid cash game play and is a fighter I am looking to roster in my own cash game builds.
Joanna Jedrzejczyk (+170) 7.3k
In order to fit the higher priced favorites on this card you are going to have to punt with an underdog or 2 on this card. Joanna is my favorite cash punt on this card. Vegas is expecting this fight to go to decision (-135) and even though is is considered the underdog Vegas favors her to win if the fight goes to the scorecards (Joanna +190 her opponent +265). JJ is a high output striker and lands at 6.07 SS’s per minute. I think she has a good chance of scoring 30-40 DraftKings points in a decision loss, throw in the fact I like her to get the winning and her ceiling is even higher 100+ Draftkings points. All signs point to JJ being a great play in cash games and she is locked into my builds!
Sure, these are MY favorite cash game plays, but maybe you play GPPs or like others. That’s fine…..you need tools, though. Fight To Target In Hybrids/Tournaments
Now that we covered some cash plays. Let’s breakdown 1 fight I really think you should get exposure to in your hybrid and tournament lineups.
Deron Winn (-135) 8.3k vs Gerald Meerschaert (+125) 7.9k
This fight may not carry the highest ITD prop of (-120) but, what it does have is 2 fighters that typically score well on DraftKings in their wins. At both their salaries the winner of this fight should on the optimal lineup and both are worth taking some stabs at in your tournament builds. I will personally have a good amount of exposure to this fight in tournaments because it’s a fight that will score well for DraftKings purposes. My preferred play is Meerschaert because he is the superior grappler and he is cheaper. A case can be made for his opponent to get the win. If you plan on playing multiple lineups in tournaments this is a great fight to target both sides of.
