Las Vegas

Las Vegas Motor Speedway will host both the Xfinity and Truck Series for race number two of their respective schedules. LVMS is a 1.5 mile track with progressive banking in the corners. The banking ranges from 12 to 20 degrees and promotes great side by side racing action for both series. Weather should be in the high 50’s to low 60’s with a chance of rain over the weekend. This weekend will give us a ton of info on how things will look in 2020 for both series.

Race Preview

The first true test of the season should be a good one. Vegas historically sees a couple long green flag runs with a handle of cautions sprinkled throughout the race. Long run speed is important as tire fall off is prevalent on the long runs. We usually look for 2 dominators here at Vegas that share the majority of fast laps and laps led. With so many changes in the offseason it will be important to pay close attention to the lone 90-minute practice to see where teams stand. There are a couple of notable driver changes from last week. Daniel Hemric will drive the #8 for JRM, Ross Chastain will actually get to drive the #10 for Kaulig and Joey Gase will be in the #93 for Ryan Seig. This track rewards the absolute best of equipment. So don’t look for any top finishes from outside the elite teams. One major thing we will have to pay attention to are start and parks. This west coast trip is brutal on teams and we often see a high number of start and parks at Vegas. There are a handful of possible teams for this race that we need to be carfeul of.

There are 36 cars on the entry list so all 36 cars will make the race

Race Preview

There is only one place to start when discussing the Truck race this week. Kyle Busch will make his first start of 2020. Busch won all five races he entered in 2019 and absolutely destroyed the competition. His price will be extremely high so he will have to dominate to pay off but based off last year that should be no problem. Last fall we saw a plethora of teams have engine issues here at Vegas so we can’t take too much info from that race. The trucks run wide open around Vegas. This enables a draft that keeps the top trucks around each other and even sets up multiple passes for the lead. Unless Kyle Busch just goes off. If Busch doesn’t turn this into a one dom race again, the normal plan is to play 2-3 dominators. Given how cool the temperature should be on Friday evening there should be plenty of grip for the trucks.

There are 35 Trucks on the entry list but only 32 drivers will qualify for the race. Three drivers will not qualify for the race. Make sure you do not have any of these drivers in your lineups!!
