Auto Club Speedway
Auto Club Speedway is a massive 2-mile track with long sweeping corners that are set with 14 degrees of banking. It is one of the widest tracks NASCAR races on and also has one of the oldest racing surfaces. Due to its older surface, the track is abrasive and wears tires out significantly. Lap times will be 1.5-2.5 seconds slower the longer a green flag run goes. This makes long run speed ultra important. The track is located in Fontana, California. Weather forecast for Xfinity looks great but there is a chance of rain on Sunday with cool temps in the 50s. It definitely will be something to pay attention to come this weekend.

Race Preview
Definitely going to start with 1-2 dominators for this race. Only 200 laps available and this track rewards elite drivers who hit on a setup. Kyle Busch absolutely owned the field last year leading 134 laps. Brad Keselowski was able to be a strong 2nd dominator though leading 42 laps and finishing 3rd while having +10 place differential. If not for Busch it would have been a Ford domination as all three Penske cars finished inside the top 5 along with Harvick. I believe we will see the elite Ford teams be incredibly strong again this year as well. After last week’s strong performance, the HMS Chevy drivers praised the new nose (front bumper) on their car. It will be interesting to see if their speed can carry over to ACS and if they can be a threat yet again. Practice speeds especially, 10-20 lap averages will be massive;y important this week.

Race Preview
For this race, we will look for at most two dominators but race history suggests only one will be needed. In 7 of the last 8 Xfinity races at Auto Club Speedway, the dominator led 90+ laps. Long run speed will also be important for the Xfinity Series. The number of DNF’s for this race is always higher due to start and parks. I expect we will see around 2-4 of those this week as well but this would be down from past years. Essentially, this means that unless we get DNF’s from wrecks or legit mechanical issues I don’t believe the punts will have as much upside. This track rewards elite teams and equipment. Also, with tires being so important, the mid-pack teams running on a budget will be at a disadvantage. Of course for more in-depth info check out our Research Station as well as my post qualifying Cheat Sheet.
