NBA Full Court Press Breakdown, Advice, and Picks for FanDuel and Draftkings – Jan. 7th, 2020

Welcome to another year of the DFS Army NBA Full Court Press! Members had a ton of success using the Full Court Press along with various articles and tools that DFS Army provides, that said, we are glad to be back with another year of the all-inclusive article. You have to start your research somewhere, and oftentimes going game by game and breaking down every matchup and its key players is the first step in our process. My name is Aaron aka @AFriedman15 on Twitter, make sure to give me a follow as I’ll occasionally make updates to the advice in the article. But, you’ll mostly find me in our VIP coaching forums where I provide detailed lineup maneuvers and answer all lineup questions. With that said, let’s get it started!

Before I get started, make sure to check out the latest new DFS website. SuperDraft is an innovative new DFS site that does not have salaries but instead uses a multiplier system and better yet, THEY HAVE LATE SWAP! Check out more on how it works below!

Full Court Press:

Detroit Pistons @ Cleveland Cavaliers

Vegas Total: 217.5

Vegas Spread:  DET – 3.5

Starting with the Pistons, Blake Griffin has already been ruled out for the game and is considering season-ending knee surgery, so we have to consider Andre Drummond. In Drummond’s last game vs. the Cavs, he went for 58 DraftKings points, and he is projected for another 52 DraftKing points and ranks third on the slate with a 17.7 And1 rating. Furthermore, Drummond gets a terrific matchup with Larry Nance OUT and Tristian Thompson questionable. Should Thompson sit, Drummond will have his way with the likes of John Henson and Ante Zizic.  My favorite play from the Pistons is Derrick Rose, who frankly will have to get some 6th Man of the Year votes, should he keep up his current form. Rose has been very durable this season and is slaying it in this second unit. Over the past month, with Drummond and Griffin off the floor, Rose averages 1.91 DraftKings points per minute.  I have also been impressed with rookie Sekou Doumbouya who has been needed with no Griffin and Markieff Morris. Sekou will start again and has 34 and 38 minutes in his last two games. At $4,600, there is still plenty of meat left on the bone and he could be a top value on the slate. Svi Mykhailuk is also getting a lot of run for the Pistons, but I am not sure how much of a focus he will be in my player pool.

For the Cavs, Larry Nance Jr. and Kevin Porter Jr. are both out and Tristan Thompson is questionable. The Thompson news is important today. If Thompson is out, that would lead to another start for John Henson, though his $1,000 price hike makes him less attractive of a play then from Sunday.  Everyone feels pretty fairly priced for the Cavs. Collin Sexton will get some consideration for me on FanDuel where he is cheaper.  Also on FanDuel, I will be considering Dante Exum in GPPs for just $3,800. He exploded for 28 real points and 37 DK points on Sunday.

5-star play: Andre Drummond, Derrick Rose

4-star play: Collin Sexton, Sekou Doumboyua

Deeper Value: John Henson, Ante Zizic, Dante Exum

GPP Sleeper: Svi Mykhailuk

Portland Trail Blazers @ Toronto Raptors

Vegas Total: 220

Vegas Spread: Tor -2.5

For Portland, the big news is CJ McCollum who is questionable with an upper respiratory illness, should he miss, that would make Damian Lillard a 5-star play, though otherwise, this doesn’t profile as a great spot for Dame Dolla. Carmelo Anthony was the beneficiary of a $400 price drop and his inconsistency makes him GPP only, along with fellow GPP target Hassan Whiteside, who does not have cash viability in my opinion. The Raptors side of the game is a much better team to target. With Fred VanVleet out, joining Gasol and Siakam on the bench, Kyle Lowry emerges as a 5 star play, as he averages 1.80 DraftKings points per minute over the past month without these three key contributors.  Serge Ibaka is relegated to FD only for me, as he is $8,300! on DraftKings, which will be virtually impossible to pay off. On FanDuel, Ibaka is a much more tolerable $7,500. I have some interest in Rondae Hollis-Jefferson who’s price has barely budged and sits at $4,800.

5-star play: Kyle Lowry

4-star play: Carmelo Anthony, Damian Lillard, Hassan Whiteside, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: None

Oklahoma City Thunder @ Brooklyn Nets

Vegas Total: 216

Vegas Spread: OKC -2.0

Starting with the Thunder, Steven Adams is my favorite all-format play drawing the dream matchup of centers vs. Brooklyn. He has double-doubled in three of his last four games, yet his price dropped to $6,600. At this price, Adams rates as a top value play on our RS and also in our top 10 is Chris Paul, who is back below $7,000 for the first time in a few weeks.  Paul has also torched Brooklyn in the past, averaging 50.3 DraftKings points over his last three. Danillo Gallinari was ruled out around 1pm ET, further enhancing the spot for Adams and Paul.

Moving on to the Nets, Spencer Dinwiddie has not hit 40 DraftKings points in his last three games, and even though this is a pace down spot, he does have enough consistency and skill to get the 40ish DraftKings points you will need out of him. With that said, it should be noted that Caris LeVert will be available to play OKC, which could eat into Dinwidde’s production.  Taurean Prince is always a GPP option at the very least due to the amount of stats he can produce across the board. Lastly, Joe Harris makes sense for all formats and I love his price at $5100.

5-star play: Steven Adams

4-star play:  Chris Paul, Spencer Dinwiddie, Jarrett Allen, Taurean Prince, Joe Harris,

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Caris LeVert

Minnesota Timberwolves @ Memphis Grizzlies

Vegas Total: 228

Vegas Spread: Mem -3.0

This game has the highest projected total on the slate. Most of the guard value is gone for the T-Wolves as Karl-Anthony Towns (Q) is the only player of note.  Andrew Wiggins returned to the court Sunday after dealing with the flu and now has another 48 hours to recover. He is my favorite player for Minnesota and I love his salary below $7,000 with him consistently getting 40 DraftKings points.  He is a great all-format play and I want some pieces of this game. In addition to Wiggins, Robert Covington and Shabbaz Napier has been playing really well for the Wolves, with both averaging 37.6 DraftKings points per game over their last three and both seeing 30+ minutes.

For Memphis, Jonas Valanciunas has been incredibly consistent, but he is priced close, if not at, his ceiling.  This team is full of intriguing GPP plays, but not a ton of guys I am comfortable rostering. Ja Morant and Jaren Jackson Jr. are super fun to watch but hard to trust. We have Jae Crowder projected as a top value too, but he just followed up a 62 burger with 11.8 DraftKings points.  Not a ton of guys I am in love with for such a high total.

5-star play: Andrew Wiggins

4-star play: Robert Covington, Shabazz Napier, Jonas Valanciunas

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., Jae Crowder

Sacramento Kings @ Phoenix Suns

Vegas Total: 226.0

Vegas Spread: PHX -6.5

Starting with the Kings, who are playing on a Back to Back, it should be noted that Richaun Holmes left last night’s game with a shoulder injury and is questionable for tonight.  Should Holmes miss the game, I like the price on Nemanja Bjelica who would see a lot of minutes with no Bagley either.  This is a spot where De’Aaron Fox and Buddy Hield could post ceiling games, but it hard to trust them in cash, per usual.  Devin Booker is a one of my favorite plays on the slate, even though his price keeps going up.  He has been on a tear and has averaged 49.7 DraftKings points over his last three games vs. the Kings. There is no reason why he shouldn’t get close to 50 DraftKings points again.   A step below Booker, Kelly Oubre Jr. profiles well per $ and I also like Deandre Ayton in GPPs only due to his price jump of $1,300.

5-star play: Devin Booker

4-star play: De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Deandre Ayton, Kelly Oubre Jr.

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: None

New York Knicks @ Los Angeles Lakers

Vegas Total: 222.0

Vegas Spread: LAL -13

Starting with the Knicks, Elfrid Payton, will be available for Tuesday’s game in the City of Angels, but Dennis Smith Jr. remains questionable at 1pm ET, so it could potentially be point guard roulette for the Knicks. The top play for New York is Julius Randle, who has a revenge game at the Staples Center. To me, he is a borderline cash play because I am a little scared of this game getting out of hand.  Other then Randle, and with the team back to full-strength, I am not seeing a lot of fantasy goodness here.

For the Lakers, Anthony Davis is probable as he has been forever. The only real injury news was  Avery Bradley, who said around 2pm ET that he would play, killing off my interest in Alex Caruso. Another cheap player is Dwight Howard who is basically a fantasy-point-per-minute guy on the court.  You don’t need a coach to tell you that AD and LeBron James, are two of the premium players on the slate. Both are excellent all-format plays, but I lean Davis here who has been on a tear and roasted the Knicks with an average of 72 DraftKings points against in his last three outings vs. the Knicks.

5-star play: Anthony Davis, LeBron James

4-star play: Julius Randle

Deeper Value: None

GPP Sleeper: Dwight Howard
