Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.
This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square
My NBA Free Squares for Today November 4th

🎃 Gorgui Dieng $3,300 / $4,000
Karl Anthony Towns will be out again so Dieng should start at center. Last game he exploded for 24 minutes and 42 fantasy points without Towns, against the Wizards. Tonight he gets a tougher matchup against the Bucks, but, his price is only $3,300 on DK and $4,000 on FD. He’s always been solid when give the minutes and I expect another solid outing tonight. Maybe not another 40 burger but he should easily pay off his cheap salary on both sites.
🎃 James Harden $10,800 / $11,000
Russell Westbrook is expected to be OUT tonight. So, we should get all the James Harden we can handle tonight vs the Grizzlies. This season, believe it or not, the Grizzlies rank 3rd in the league in Pace at 107.56 while the Rockets, unsurprisingly, rank 1st 109.17. With Westbrook off the floor (small sample) James Harden has a near 50% usage rate. He’s going to do everything for his team tonight, much like he did all of last season. The difference of course, being his price has not reached the levels we saw last year so he’s a solid discount today.

🎃 Warriors
Draymond Green is out again and D’Angelo Russell is questionable. If they are both out again we’re going to see the Warriors G-League team again tonight. Last game, Jordan Poole played 30 minutes and scored 7 fantasy points, yuck. However, the other value guys played and played pretty well. Eric Paschall played 35 minutes and scored 35 fantasy points. Glenn Robinson III played 36 minutes and scored 35 fantasy points while Ky Bowman played 38 minutes and scored 34 fantasy points. I will target these 3 players before I target guys like Poole and Burks tonight.
🎃 Sixers
With Embid sitting out the last game of his suspension, we can take advantage of an increased workload for Al Horford (6.9/7.5), and Tobias Harris (7.0/7.3). Against the Blazers last game, Horford played 30 minutes and scored 49.5 fantasy points. Harris pitched in his own 35 minutes and 44 fantasy points. Both will be heavily involved in the Offense with Embid out so take advantage of it.
🎃 Pistons
Derrick Rose and Reggie Jackson are out tonight, so, we should continue to see solid minutes for Luke Kennard (5.0/5.0) and Bruce Brown (3.2/3.9). The matchup tonight against the Wizards is as good as it gets as they rank 4th from last in the league in Defensive Efficiency and they play at the 4th highest pace in the league. Kennard played 37 minutes last game vs the Nets and scored 32 fantasy points. The game before that he played 32 minutes vs the Bulls and scored 26 fantasy points. Bruce Brown exploded last game against the Nets playing 40 minutes and scoring 41 fantasy points. Both are fully in play as mid-tier values tonight with Rose and Jackson out.

Andre Drummond leads the slate today with a 26.4 AND1 Rating against the Washington Wizards. The Wizards rank 4th from last in the league in Defensive Efficiency and they play at the 4th highest pace in the league. Drummond is coming off 3 straight “Barbara Walters” 20/20 games in a row and he should be in line for a 4th here tonight against the Wizards. Check out the Rest of the Top 3 at each position below.
