Welcome to the DFS Army NBA Free Squares article, where I will try to break down my favorite NBA Free Squares and Fanduel and Draftkings for Today’s NBA slate.
So what is a Free Square exactly? In DFS we define the Free Square as a player to build your lineups around. Generally, this player represents the closest we can find to a sure thing for the slate.
This column is all about trying to identify the free square for a particular slate. Often times, this will be a low-cost player who is thrust into a starting role and sure to make or exceed value. The type of player that allows us to load up the rest of our lineup with high salary studs. Occasionally it will be a high priced stud in a great spot. Each slate we will take a look at three or four players which represent great value on the day’s slate of games and choose the one which best represents the top value and floor play to earn the title of the slates Free Square
My NBA Free Squares for Today November 1st
Today we get a solid Friday slate with 8 games on the schedule to tip off November! The highest implied team totals belong to the Rockets (123.25), the Nets (118.75) and the Spurs (116.25). While the three highest-priced players on DK are James Harden $11.0k, Giannis Antetokounmpo $10.9k, and Anthony Davis $10.6k.

🎃 Derrick White $5,200 / $5,400
White will get the start tonight for the Spurs in a back to back as Dejounte Murray rests. The matchup vs the Warriors is a great one as they are in a tailspin right now without Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and of course Kevin Durant. The last man standing is D’Angelo Russell who is really known for his defense and Draymond Green and isn’t really known for his scoring ability. All that being said, this is a great spot for White and the Spurs who have the 3rd highest team total on the day at 116.25. The Warriors have been playing at the 5th highest pace this year, and come into tonight with the 30th ranked Defense in the league.
🎃 Danuel House $4,000 / $4,500
He has been playing close to 30 minutes a night to start the year for the fast-paced Rockets. Last game he put up 33.9 fantasy points in that wild 159-158 win vs the Wizards. While we can’t expect the Rockets to score 159 again, we should expect House to continue to see close to 30 minutes a game for a team that plays at the 2nd fastest pace in the league and who currently has the #1 rated offense in the league. A price of only $4,000 on DK seems like a steal here tonight in a great matchup against the Brooklyn Nets
NOTE: Eric Gordon is in a similar spot for the Rockets, he’s getting minutes and taking a lot of shots (he took 13 3pt shots last game) but he just hasn’t had that breakout game yet. He’s priced at just $4,000 on Dk as well and he’s going to break out eventually.

Steph Curry broke his wrist last game and he’ll be out for some time now. D’Angelo Russell will be the focal point of this offense now going forward, but, he’ll also be the focal point of the Opposing Defense each night as well. He showed last year that he can put up solid fantasy numbers when he was the main guy in Brooklyn so we should expect him to do well here in Golden State. Tonight against the Spurs I probably won’t target Russell too heavily though and I’ll focus more on the Warriors value players who will play bigger roles now. Alec Burks and Jordan Poole should play more minutes now with Curry, and I like Burkes more than Poole for now.
