Race Info

There are only three races left in the Truck Series season. This week the series will race at Martinsville Speedway for the second time in 2019. Martinsville is a tight, half mile short track that produces great racing action. It is also one of the tracks where we see many young drivers get their first starts in the series. Martinsville has a history of being a somewhat chaotic caution filled race however, that hasn’t really been the case the last few races. We can usually plan on a string of short runs due to cautions but also at least 1-2 long green flag runs. Track position will be key so pitting will be less frequent with tire management and long run speed being key. Due to this it will be important to pay close attention to practice speeds to see who can carry speed on the long run.

The DFS Army will be bringing you tons of NASCAR coverage this weekend and throughout the rest of the year!! VIP members get elite coverage not just for NASCAR but for every sport. Be sure to check out all the NASCAR Cup Series VIP articles available on a weekly basis!!

Lineup Building

Dominator/Top Plays

Pretty every race here is a two dominator situtaion with one main dom leading 100+ and then a second dom in the 35-50 range.  Drivers who start on the front row, first or second, do really well here in terms of laps led. Johnny Sauter has to be one of the favorites this week having won two of the last six races and leading 293 laps over that period. John Hunter Nemechek will be another dominator threat and is also a former winner. My pre race favorite will be Ross Chastain who looked great here in the spring leading 53 laps before finishing 4th. Also,  drivers like Moffitt, Rhodes and Crafton are always good here and should definitely be considered for strong performances. Martinsville is one of the best tracks in terms of using practice information so we will definitely want to pay close attention to see who looks the best.

Mid Tier/Low Tier

Because Martinsville requires mechanical group for teams to have a fast truck the elite teams often show up best prepared. This means drivers like Harrison Burton and Todd Gilliland will definitely have a leg up on everyone. Sam Mayer makes his 2nd start for GMS Racing in the #21 and will have great upside. And with his price John Hunter Nemechek is a great option no matter what.  There are numerous drivers who have positive place differentials of 10+, usually 4-5 a race. Finding these drivers will be crucial. This also means there are multiple drivers with large multiple place differential totals. Picking this group right is the key to a top lineup.

Punts

With the low DNF rate here this group will have a relatively low upside. If you have to shed salary somewhere your best bet will be to play drivers in better equipment who can potentially stay on the lead lap. This could set them up for a top 15 finishing position and a solid day. This includes taking a chance on drivers like Natalie Decker and Tanner Gray who will be making his debut in the #15 for DGR.

I will also answer any questions you may have in the VIP Slack!

This will conclude this edition of The Truck Series Setup. If you would like to reach out and talk NASCAR Follow me on twitter @Larkin8 and join me as well as our other DFS Army NASCAR contributors (Brady Miller, Taco, and NillyJay) in the NASCAR coaching channels.
