Lineup Building

This week the Cup Series makes its way to the paper clip of Martinsville Speedway. Martinsville is a tight half mile track with low banked corners. It offers some of the best racing action in all of NASCAR. Martinsville was once a rough ’em up crash fest of a track with tons of beating and banging. This can still be the case as we saw late in the fall 2017 race but overall this track as become rather tame. From 1997 to 2015, a span of 38 races we only saw TWO races with single digit cautions. Since the start of 2016 we have seen single digit cautions in 5 of 7 races and that includes the addition of stage cautions in 2017. The main point is that we are seeing long runs really take over here at Martinsville. Practice speeds here are some of the most relevant of the year as is past track history. For this info be sure to check out our DFS Army Research Station.

Inspection at Martinsville: Cars will be impounded after qualifying on Saturday and inspected Sunday morning when the garage opens. The starting lineup will be unofficial until inspection is complete. Cars that do not pass on the first attempt will have their qualifying times disallowed.

Dominator / Top Tier

At 500 laps there are tons of dom points available this weekend. We can see anywhere from 2-4 doms.  In the Spring Brad Keselowski at 9% ownership smashed the field leading 446 laps. Chase Elliott led 49 laps and finished 2nd in the race meaning even a race where on driver destroyed the field a 2nd dominator was needed in the optimal. As for normal races we usually see 2-3 drivers lead a large bulk of laps. Penske and Gibbs drivers have been the best here over the last half decade or so and will definitely be the top drivers for the win. That means Keselowski, Logano, Blaney, Kyle Busch, Truex Jr and Hamlin all have high dom and win possibilities. Kevin Harvick and Chase Elliott are two drivers who are also very good here and can contend for the win.

Mid to Low Tier

With so much attention needing to be on doms this area can become a balancing act. Driver history is crucial here so first thing I would recommend is look for drivers who do well here. AJ Allmendinger was always a great example of a driver who had this place figured out and would consistently have great finishes. If you have to shed salary and attack the lower tier you will want to take drivers who have shown an ability to run well. As always the more place differential available the better.

The DFS Army members are crushing every sport due to our awesome coaches, Domination Station and Research Station. If you aren’t a member yet now is the time to join!! Punts

The punts this week will be 10-15 laps down. They will be way off the pace. Considering there are very few DNFs this group will have a very limited upside. Outside of having to save salary for doms there really is very little reason to play in this area. Going back to playing the track history game, Landon Cassill is perhaps the best of the group.

I will be giving my Fanduel Top Plays in a VIP article prior to the race.

I will also answer any questions you may have in the VIP Slack!
