Race Notes

The Xfinity Series will kick of the 2019 playoffs at Richmond Raceway. This week we will see a one day show from the Xfinity Series with Practice, Qualifying and the Race all happening on Friday. This should give even more of an advantage to the top teams and veteran drivers who will be better prepared for the race. Richmond is a 3/4 mile short track and has an extremely rough surface which wears tires out significantly. There is massive fall off so those 10 and especially 20 lap practice speeds will be incredibly important. Tracks that wear out tires generally have very little in terms of crashes due to the drivers being too focused on themselves and taking care of the tires. There will only be about a 2 hour window between qualifying and race to get lineups set.

As always the DFS Army Research Station will be available and the Domination Station will be available AFTER starting lineups are set.

The DFS Army will be bringing you tons of NASCAR coverage this weekend and throughout the rest of the year!! VIP members get elite coverage not just for NASCAR but for every sport. Be sure to check out all the NASCAR Cup Series VIP articles available on a weekly basis!!

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

There are tons of dominator points available this week with a 250 lap race. For that reason we will look for at least two doms and possibly three. We see ridiculously long green flag runs here which leads to one driver leading a lot of laps for a period of time. Due to tire wear off we often see challenges for the lead later in a green flag run.  Another side effect to this is fast laps might start to be collected by a driver who saved his tires early in a run and has better long run speed. Christopher Bell is fantastic both here and at tracks where tires fall off. He will be the early favorite to dominate and win. Cole Custer was able to dominate this race in the spring and is going to be Bell’s biggest competition. Lastly, Justin Allgaier is the third biggest threat to dominate portions of this race. Since the start of 2017 no driver has led more laps at Richmond than Allgaier.

Mid Tier

This week is all about top tier equipment. The best cars have an extra advantage this week with only one short practice session and the difficulties of the track on tires. The under funded teams that are not able to run new tires and instead use scuffs are at a massive disadvantage. So drivers like Brandon Jones, Harrison Burton and Zane Smith are going to have the best upsides at a good value. Finding the drivers with the highest finishing position upside is key this week.

Low Tier/Punts

With an ultra low DNF rate and crash rate here it is hard to get excited about any punts. They will struggle to make up spots and have a limited upside. The best plays will come in the form of drivers who can move forward the most from their qualifying positions.

I will also answer any questions you may have in the VIP Slack!
