Race Notes

Watkins Glen marks the first of four road course races for the Xfinity Series in 2019. The Glen is just under 2.5 miles and runs in clock wise direction. This means mostly right hand turns. Due to length of the track there are a low number of total laps. Also, the length of the track opens up the strategy game with teams pitting early to make sure they stay out front if caution were to come out. This can shake up the field for a period of time and mix up the lap leaders. We also see anywhere from 20-25% of laps run under caution. The elite road racers and the elite teams will have a clear advantage here. With road racing being a specialty style of racing it is important to get the most info on each driver as possible. The DFS Army Research Station is the best place to get all the practice and track history info for each driver.

Check out our VIP article called The Inside Line: Xfinity Series featuring Driver/Team notes, news, as well as stats and my own personal viewpoints for every driver involved in the Xfinity Series race. This article will be available to DFS Army VIP members for every Xfinity race.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

For this week we will lock to play 1-2 dominators. There a couple very obvious Dom plays this week with Kyle Busch and AJ Allmendinger the pre race favorites to win. The expectation will likely end up being that those two battle hard for the lead for the entire race. A sneaky play to upset these two drivers would be Austin Cindric who comes from a road racing background and is driving for Penske. Penske has won four of the last six races at Watkins Glen. Ryan Blaney will be running the #12 for Penske this week.

Mid to Low Tier

With most the dominator potential coming from the highest price guys finding good mid tier plays will be important. As always when trying to find the best value position differential is ultra important. This race is fairly straight forward in the sense you will look to play the drivers with the best teams and equipment. There aren’t many obvious plays so practice times will be vitally important in terms of figuring out who has the most speed and thus the most upside.

The level of domination the DFSArmy has experienced this year in NASCAR has been unbelievable. Jump into the VIP Slack for great insight from ALL the NASCAR coaches.  If you aren’t already a part of  the winning culture then sign up to become a VIP Member and use code Xfinity to save 20%!!

Punts

With as many DNFs as we see here many punts have decent upside. Simply staying out of trouble and maintaining the lead lap has given multiple punt plays the ability to score 35+ points in recent years. It is of course important to identify the start and parks and to get a bit lucky in terms of part failures but with a couple wrecks from the front half of the field punt plays can pay off well.
