Race Info

This week the Truck Series makes its way to the tricky triangle of Pocono Raceway. Pocono is a massive 2.5 mile track with three distinctly different corners. This race is the shortest of the season at only 60 laps. This will greatly change the lineup needs. We have seen everything from crash filled race with nine cautions to completely clean races with zero natural cautions. Kyle Busch Motorsports have dominated this place winning the last four races. NASCAR and Pocono have decided to at PJ1 to the second groove of the track. This should help with more side by side racing and potentially lead to more crashes due to the aero difficulties the trucks are experiencing this year. As Always, it is still important to pay close attention to practice times to see who has good short and long run speed. The Research Station will be the best tool to help utilize this information.

There are currently 31 Trucks on the entry list.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

At 60 laps this is at most a one dominator race. If the race goes caution free besides the stage breaks there will be a total of 41 dom points available. Each additional caution/caution laps will decrease that number. Due to this playing the one dom who can lead the most laps and will most likely win is vital. Outside of that drivers with the most upside are CRUCIAL. Look for the drivers with top 5 upside especially ones that offer position upside as well. As the four time defending dominators and winners of this race the KBM trucks of Burton, Gilliland and Eckes should be looked at as potential doms. Other top trucks from the GMS and Thorsport stables will most likely be the best place to look as well.

Mid to Low Tier

The best teams will excel here so play those drivers first especially any who offer obvious position differential upside. Most these drivers will be able to stay on the lead lap through the majority of the race. This gives them serious upside potential late if we see a rash of cautions. Of course any driver who offers place differential upside is key and finding the right combination of place diff. and finishing position upside will be crucial to success.

Punts

Unless we get a wreck filled race which I do not anticipate the punts will have far less viability than they have so far this year. Keep in mind that over the last two years there have been a total of TWO natural cautions and only 3 DNFs from not start and park teams. Based on the initial entry list there could be more start and park drivers than normal so this will be something to keep an eye on as well. Overall this group will struggle to appear anywhere near an optimal lineup without the help of others.
