Race Info

This weeks race returns to yet another 1.5 mile track in Kentucky Speedway. Kentucky marks the 8th 1.5 mile race in the first 13 events of 2019. This means we have plenty of information to pull from regarding this style of racing. Kentucky was repaved in 2016 which has led to a lot of single file racing. Due to this NASCAR and the track operators have decided to put the PJ1 traction compound down in the upper grooves to try and get some side by side racing through the field. Due to the track tendency to be single grooved as well as turns 1 & 2 being fairly different than turns 3 & 4 I believe this race could look very similar to both Texas races earlier this year. If you remember both races were filled with cautions. The Truck Series has been a mess at times with the likes of Decker and Creed trying their best to set crash rate records for the series. If the trend continues we could be in store for another crazy slate. As Always, it is still important to pay close attention to practice times to see who has good short and long run speed. The Research Station will be the best tool to help utilize this information.

There are currently 34 Trucks on the entry list meaning TWO teams will not make the race.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

Based on the number of laps and past race history most lineups should look to have 2 dominators. The last 5 race winners have all started inside the top 3. This is a fairly common trend dating back all the way to the first Kentucky race with 15 of 21 winners starting inside the top 5. Thorsport and KBM have been great in recent years winning the last five races with five different drivers. Stewart Friesen, Brett Moffitt and Grant Enfinger have been the best performers on 1.5 mile tracks recently and should be the pre race favorites for the win. Rhodes, Crafton and Sauter will all be strong contenders as well.

Mid to Low Tier

There are several plays to be optimistic about in this group this week. Harrison Burton drops again in price to $8,800 for no apparent reason. Burton has posted 3 top 5s in the last four races and broke 45 points on DK in all three of those races. Sheldon Creed, Brennan Poole and Tyler Ankrum all find them selves under $8,500. All three drivers are priced correctly and offer fantastic upside that can put them in the optimal linuep. Draftkings also appears to have sorted out pricing for drivers like Dippel, Boyd, Self and Anderson making all of them better plays than they have been in recent weeks. Dylan Lupton is likely to be a chalky driver this week as he is the lone remaining driver under $7,000 with top 10 upside. As always place differential is important with this group.

Punts

This group has been absolutely pivotal this year when trying to put together the optimal lineup. Outside of the obvious start and parks all these drivers are in play. On any given week these drivers are scoring 30-40 points. Due to the high crash rate for the trucks this season and the nature of this Kentucky track I believe this is likely to happen again this week. Picking the right driver to accomplish this will mean finding the guy with solid position differential upside but also able to crack into that top 20. Josh Bilicki has been the perfect example of this scoring 33 points in both starts with finishes of 18th and 19th.
