NASCAR Cup Series Setup Top Plays for FanDuel: Daytona

Welcome to the Cup Series Setup for Fanduel. Here we will be breaking down the best plays for Fanduel purposes. My name is RyanLarkin88 and you can follow me @Larkin8 on twitter. This week the Cup Series is at Daytona International Speedway. The VIP Member Research Station and Domination Station will be ready to go for you to help create your lineups so be sure to check that out. Also, jump in the NASCAR VIP Slack and get some great insight into this weeks race.

It is very, very important to remember that Daytona can be a mess with tons of wrecks. These are the best plays based off their potential.

Top Tier Plays

Brad Keselowski

Brad is either going to win this thing or wreck it appears and I love it. Winner of 6 Super Speedway race Brad has perhaps the best record on this style of track. Starting 3rd he will already be at the front and I expect he will do everything possible to stay there.

Ryan Blaney

Blaney offers the best upside of any driver over $10,000. I expect him to be able to pair up with his Penske teammates and have a shot at locking down a top 5 or even possible a win. Since the start of the 2017 season he has led 47 more laps than anyone else. He is a crash risk like everyone running towards the front but he is also one of the biggest threats for the win who might actually go under owned.

Value Plays

Ricky Stenhouse Jr.

Stenhouse is the epitome of wreckers or checkers this week. He is probably the most likely driver to wreck but he also has massive potential to win. He has led double digit laps in 4 straight races including 17 in his win here in July 2017. I love his aggressive style and I believe he can deliver huge if he can stay clean. He starts 20th so he can offer some decent position upside differential if he can score a good finish.

Erik Jones

Jones is a rather obvious chalk play this week having finished 3rd in the Daytona 500 and winning this race last year. He starts 17th so he offers really good positional differential upside. Toyotas just seem to get around Daytona really well and I expect Jones to be a strong top 5 contender again.

Ryan Newman

Newman is a damn bulldog who has been running at the finish of 17 straight Daytona races. I don’t know how that is even possible but if anyone was going to do it Newman was the guy. He has an average finish of 8.75 in the last 4 Daytona races as well. He is just outside the playoff picture so a win would do wonders but I also can see Newman playing it safe and smart and optimizing points in a race where he can easily make them up on his closest competitors.

Low Tier/Punts

Brendan Gaughan

Gaughan has finishes of 12th, 11th and 7th in his last 5 races. He starts 39th this week due to qualifying being rained out and I fully expect him to be able to stay out of trouble and make his way forward.

Parker Kligerman

Parker finished 15th in this years Daytona 500. He also has two truck series wins to his name with both coming on this style of track. He starts 36th and I believe he has a solid shot at a top 10.

David Ragan and Michael McDowell

The Front Row Motorsports teammates are my favorite plays under $6k this week. McDowell has the 2nd best average finish of active drivers with more than 1 race at 11.8. He has finished 15th or better in 6th of the last 7 races. Teammate Ragan has 2 career Cup Series wins with both coming on Super Speedway tracks. I believe these two can team up and and make their way forward for a solid top 10-15.
