WNBA FULL COURT PRESS

NY Liberty @ Indiana Fever

The Liberty head to Indiana for round 2 of this opening day matchup. In that game, the only real bright spot for the Liberty was Tina Charles. The Liberty spread out the minutes all over the place, making it almost impossible for anyone to get going. They lost the game on a buzzer beater, so they’ll be looking to even the series today. Tina Charles is the top option on this team and will once again have to carry the team. Beyond Charles, it is hard to know what the Liberty will do here, do they continue spreading out the minutes, making sure no one plays over 22 minutes? In such a case, Rebecca Allen could be the only other Liberty player of interest here. As the day progresses a better picture of what the Liberty could do will pop up and we will have this covered on our slate notes.

The Fever will be looking to bounce back from their loss against the Sun. This is their home opener, so they’ll want to put up a good showing for their fans. Erica Wheeler has been on fire to begin this season, and she’ll look to keep up her fine form tonight. I’m still a huge fan of Kelsey Mitchell, but it is getting difficult to recommend her after her disastrous start to the season. As long as Kelsey continues to struggle, this opens space for Tiffany Mitchell to step in and flourish. Tiffany had an excellent game in the first meeting and will look to match it once again. Candice Dupree is a key pillar of this Fever team, she carries a lot of upside and the team generally goes as she does. Natalie Achonwa continues to get the lion share of the minutes at center and will look to get her season going after two disappointing games so far. Finally, with Shenise Johnson out, Betnijah Laney will get a lot of minutes at SF tonight. She will push towards 30 minutes here, making her an excellent option on this slate.

5-star play: Tina Charles, Erica Wheeler

4-star play: Candice Dupree, Tiffany Mitchell, Kelsey Mitchell

Deeper Value: Rebecca Allen, Natalie Achonwa

GPP Sleeper: Betnijah Laney

Atlanta Dream @ Washington Mystics

The Dream are playing on the second leg of B2B, coming off a brutal loss to the Storm. For the Dream, it all begins with Jessica Breland. She has been their best player so far this season, basically carrying this team on her shoulders. Her matchup tonight is a good one, and she should be able to dominate here. Tiffany Hayes is too good of a player to remain in this funk she has been in. Third time just might be the charm, the matchup is a good one for her, especially if Kristi Toliver misses this game with an injury. Brittney Sykes has been playing well this season and there is no reason for this to stop now. Renee Montgomery hasn’t found her groove, she’ll be needed today to guide her team through the Mystics. Elizabeth Williams will have her hands full with the big bodies the Mystics will put out making this an interesting spot for her. Finally, Nia Coffey continues to amaze off the bench for the Dream, making her an interesting option tonight.

After a crushing defeat in their season opener, the Mystics will look to bounce back in their home opener. However, this is going to be a difficult task as they could be without both Kristi Toliver and Elena Delle Donne. If both Toliver and EDD are out, the Mystics will be operating with an 8-woman team. This will put virtually everyone on the team in play, no matter what the outlook of the game is. Leading the way will be their core of Emma Meesseman, Natasha Cloud and Ariel Atkins. A lot will be demanded of these three players, and they’ll all play over 30 minutes in this scenario. LaToya Sanders will have her hands full dealing with the likes of Elizabeth Williams, with Myisha Hines-Allen providing backup. Shatori Walker-Kimbrough, Tiana Hawkins and even Kim Mestdagh will all be called on to play their roles here.

5-star play: Jessica Breland, Emma Meesseman, Elena Delle Donne (Q)

4-star play: Tiffany Hayes, Brittney Sykes, Natasha Cloud, Ariel Atkins

Deeper Value: Nia Coffey, Myisha Hines-Allen

GPP Sleeper: Shatori Walker-Kimbrough

Minnesota Lynx @ Dallas Wings

The lynx take their 2-0 record to Dallas to challenge the Wings tonight. The last time we saw the Wings, they were getting destroyed by the bigs of the Dream. Well, guess what? The Lynx have an impressive set of bigs themselves. Sylvia Fowles and Napheesa Collier should feast here tonight. It’s hard to see the Wings stopping them here. Damiris Dantas has settled in nicely for the Lynx as well and makes for a solid option on this slate. On the guard front, with Seimone Augustus still out and Christmas-Kelley still questionable, Danielle Robinson, Odyssey Sims, and Lexie Brown all remain firmly in play here for the Lynx. Don’t sleep on Jessica Shepard either who has been getting solid minutes for the Lynx, although she is a little pricey on both sites.

The Wings spread out their minutes during their season opener, much of it was due however to adjusting for foul trouble. With Skylar Diggins out, and Azura Stevens dealing with a concussion, much will fall on the shoulders of Glory Johnson, Allisha Gray, and Arike Ogunbowale. It is difficult to be confident about players on this Wings team in this matchup. It’s a tough spot for them. That said, Ogunbowale and Johnson have the talent to perform here. Gray is streaky and if she starts knocking down shots, watch out. Brooke McCarty-Williams got a lot of minutes in the opener due mainly to foul trouble issues, she makes an interesting option off the bench here tonight. Imani McGee-Stafford could be a big factor tonight as well, her size will be needed to deal with the big bodies of the Lynx. Finally, Isabelle Harrison could continue her fine form from the season opener here as well.

5-star play: Sylvia Fowles, Napheesa Collier

4-star play: Arike Ogunbowale, Odyssey Sims, Allisha Gray, Danielle Robinson

Deeper Value: Imani McGee-Stafford, Lexie Brown, Isabelle Harrison

GPP Sleeper: Damiris Dantas

Seattle Storm @ Chicago Sky

The Storm are on the back end of a B2B tonight. They get to face the defense-allergic Sky. This is a fantastic spot for the Storm, and virtually all of their players are in play here. Given how well rested the Sky are this could potentially be a close-ish game, making it even better for DFS purposes. Natasha Howard and Jewell Loyd standout here for the Storm. The Sky do not have anyone who can stop Howard. She should continue her dominance on the boards. Jewell Loyd hasn’t been her top self so far this season. This is a good spot for her to pick up her form. Jordin Canada continues to perform well in her starting PG role this season and makes for a good play on this slate. Alysha Clark made her season debut with a fantastic outing and she’ll be looking to build on that today. Finally, Crystal Langhorne and Mercedes Russell could be in for good games here as well.

The Sky almost have too many guards on their roster. This makes it difficult to get a good feel of what they plan on doing this season. That said, everything begins with Courtney Vandersloot. If they are to take anything away from this game, Vandersloot will need to be on fire. Allie Quigley is another option the Sky will lean on. She is a sharpshooter and her scoring will be relied on heavily by her team. Diamond DeShields was disappointing in the opener, she’ll have to step up big time here tonight. The good news is she has a good record against the Storm. Stefanie Dolson, Cheyenne Parker, and Gabby Williams will also be relied on to keep this Sky team competitive tonight.

5-star play: Natasha Howard, Jewell Loyd, Courtney Vandersloot

4-star play: Allie Quigley, Diamond DeShields, Jordin Canada, Alysha Clark

Deeper Value: Stefanie Dolson, Gabby Williams, Cheyenne Parker

GPP Sleeper: Mercedes Russell, Crystal Langhorne
