Hunting Homers – DFS MLB Power Picks and Homeruns for Higher Fanduel and Draftkings Scores – June 1

Welcome to a test version of a future MLB article from your friends at DFS Army.  The goal of this piece will be to find those homeruns that boost your DFS scores and have you leapfrogging leaderboard spots in bunches.  We will focus solely on power numbers for both bats and pitchers, and we will largely center around the ISO metric indicating raw power.

All numbers cited are produced for VIPs daily inside our MLB Research Station.  We may cross-reference some with Trends tabs, Pitching Hubs, and various other stats, but we largely focus on the hitter’s ISO and the pitcher’s ISO against.  We aim to find strength on weakness, so let’s dive in for today’s quick Hunting Homers plays…

Main Slate #200on200 MLB Picks for June 1

Nick Margevicius – .365 ISO given to left-handed bats…452 WOBA.  Now, we don’t necessarily track woba here, but dang, that’s a big number.  Also, bad to right-handed bats with a .218 ISO given.  Too bad MIA doesnt have much to offer other than a bunch of “try hard.”  With a more powerful offense, this would be a spot to be had.  MIA bats in play – Granderson.

Cole Irvin – .294 ISO given to lefties.  A little reverse splits action for you, which is great for lower ownership when people only see the LvL and move on.  Do the Dodgers have any lefties with power?  Hmmmm.   LAD bats in play – Muncy, Bellinger.  (There is a reason Pederson typically sits…his ISO LvL is .106)

Remember to ensure your bats are in the starting lineup…or even up in the majors.  I’m mentioning my sheet as inclusively as possible and am not looking at starting lineups being released.  It is your responsibility to cross check with other research and to make sure your hitters of choice don’t come blindly off someone’s list.  You need to make sure they are not injured and they are actually going to see at bats today.

Tommy Milone – .292 ISO allowed to right-handed bats.  Again, can we think of an LAA right hander that is a great hitter?  Perhaps one of the best ever?  Yep, he mashes righties for high ISO.  Milone faces some danger in a team that hits right-handed pitching for 79% contact, only strikes out 19% of the time, and swings and misses only 9% of the time.  So, with Milone’s own numbers looking eerily similar, we have a recipe for lots of balls in play.  Will those balls find holes?  I don’t know.  But, the more get put in play, the less tend to find gloves, I can tell you that much.  LAA bats in play – Mike Trout, Brian Goodwin.

Andrew Heaney – .242 ISO allowed to righties.  Decent numbers outside of these few, but he does give a rather high 1.76 HR/9 and a kind of dangerous 37% flyball ratio.  There are so many close calls in SEA, we’ll just list them all being they are over .190 ISO themselves.  SEA bats in play – Encarnacion, Haniger, Santana, Beckham.

Rick Porcello – .215 ISO to lefties.  39% flyballs is a lot, and a 45 DFSA Grade is getting weak.  We can look to a couple Yankee lefties tonight.  NYY bats in play – Aaron Hicks, Brett Gardner (Gardner is a .185 ISO guy, but has been a little better lately and occasionally finds himself in the heart of the order.  If that’s the case, I’ll look to him.  I probably pass if hitting 8th or 9th again.)

Domingo German – .201 ISO to lefties.  Barely makes the cut, but we do have a couple bats to watch and a sneaky call to make.  BOS bats in play – Rafael Devers (hit one last night), and Jackie Bradley jr…..not over .200 ISO on his own, but is a .173 and has been heating up some.  I like this value shot to come through sometime soon…..will tonight be the “sneaky” night?

MLB Honorable Mentions

Here are a few other pitchers to watch tonight that just didn’t give the ISO against I’m looking for in this particular article…

Jon Gray – Smoak, Tellez, and even young Biggio
Justin Verlander – contrarian play, Matt Olson…..Verlander gives a .178 ISO and Olson boasts a .292 ISO vs RHP.
Clayton Kershaw – another contrarian play.  Bryce Harper runs at .205 ISO and Kershaw offers a .178 against.

GPP stack – Jose Quintana – .174 ISO allowed to righties, and the STL Cardinals have them.  Watch these…
Goldschmidt – .262
DeJong – .245
Gyorko – .230
Martinez – .246
Bader – .247
Ozuna – might as well toss him into stacks… .176

*This #200on200 thing is just one parameter in which you might look through the RS for when choosing thunder bats*.  When you find one of your own, feel free to tweet me @Choppodong or @dfsarmy on Twitter, and let’s have some fun with this metric!

Obviously, there are many other MLB coaching notes, methodologies, and processes to evaluate. But, ISO given up by a pitcher to the power ISO of a bat just makes logical sense and is here to point out great matchups………..not predict results. In conjunction with other factors, though, you can really find some 5-star matchups tonight and put yourself in a great position to accumulate some points in bunches. Try it tonight.

(One way to crosscheck this number is to look at L7 woba (in Trends tab of our Research Station) and see who is also hitting well recently. I would be less excited about some great #200on200 guy hitting .150 woba over the last week than if I found some guy hitting a .500 and tearing the cover off the ball when he finds this kind of matchup tonight.)
