Race Info

Dover International Raceway is a high banked one mile track that can be quite challenging especially for inexperienced drivers. In recent years we haven’t seen as many accidents as in the past but it is always a threat at Dover. One thing that is rather consistent is how tough the track is on the lower tier teams and their ability to finish the race. A combination of Long run speed, track position and Drivers who offer consistency will be the key today. Zane Smith in the #8 and Riley Herbst back in the #18 are the only significant driver changes for this week. This week also marks the final race in the Dash 4 Cash series.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

For this race we tend to see more 1 dominator performances. Give the number of laps it definitely sets itself up for 2 dominators however we have only seen that happen once in the last 5 races. The Joe Gibbs cars historically have been the best and I expect that to continue with Christopher Bell. In Bell’s two career Dover races he has an avg. finish of 2.5 including a dominating win last fall. Justin Allgaier will be the other pre race favorite having finished inside the top 3 in 4 out of the last 5 Dover races. That also includes a dominating win in this event last year. Cole Custer and Tyler Reddick have both shown great speed all year and will have outside chances at being a dominator/winner.

Mid to Low Tier

In this range Riley Herbst, Kaz Grala, Noah Gragson and Zane Smith all offer phenomenal upside at really good prices. We also continue to get great value from Gaulding who has finished 17th or better in 7 of his last 8 races. Pricing in the $6,000 to $7,000 range has settled to the point where there isn’t obvious value but all are playable under the right circumstances.

Punts

Due to the high DNF rate all punts are playable to an extent. However, the high DNF rate is due to these bottom end team not being able to finish the entire race. Dover is rather tough on the equipment itself and many teams will end up falling out. Pick the right driver from this group and you could get some solid points but there is risk in taking any of these teams. Obviously you should avoid the start and parks teams no matter what.

If you are new to NASCAR check out this article I wrote explaining lineup creation!
