The first thing of note for this weeks Kansas truck race is that there are only 27 cars currently scheduled to be there. Normally Truck races see a field size of 32. This will only make it more difficult to get an edge this week. As for driver notes, Angela Ruch is back in the #44 this week. Riley Herbst will be in the #46 and Brandon Jones will be in the #51 for KBM. Kansas will be the longest 1.5 mile race of the year so far in terms of laps which means it does offer more dominator points than we have seen thus far. It will also be a one day show which means practice, qualifying and the race will all be Friday. Be prepared to crunch numbers using the research station quickly and pay close attention to 10 lap averages as long run speed is important.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

Given that there are 167 laps I do believe a 2 dominator strategy is in play however, we have mostly seen only 1 driver dominate the laps led here. I would recommend trying to pair up two threats to dominate and while we may only see one driver dominate the laps led, having a strong number 2 with some fast laps and a top 3 finish could be the key. The past five years have been absolutely dominated by Kyle Busch Motorsports. They have won 4 of the 5 races with Erik Jones leading 151 laps in the other race. They also did that domination with 4 different drivers so clearly the team knows how to get around Kansas. Harrison Burton will be a fringe top tier driver but given the KBM history should be a major threat. Matt Crafton and Johnny Sauter have great history here and will enter the race as the early favorites.

The DFS Army has been crushing NASCAR contest all year. Check out this result atop the Xfinity Series involving FOUR DFS Army memebers!!

Mid to Low Tier

In the mid tier we will see 3 KBM trucks of Riley Herbst, Brandon Jones and Todd Gilliland. Given the previously stated history at this track of KBM all 3 have huge upside. As for strategy in this area don’t be afraid to pay down. With currently only 27 drivers on the entry list the entire field will score well. There will be little separation. Guys like Jesse Little and Brandon Poole decided not to make the trip meaning lower priced guys have higher finishing position upside. This will open things up for drivers like Anderson, Boyd and Dean to possibly finish top 15 and score well.

Punts

Given the low truck number and especially low number of punt drivers these drivers will end up costing a bit more than normal. Traditional punts such as Cobb, Benning, Reamue and TBD (#34) are all we have to offer for this week. The positive side to these drivers is that they will have no downside and can easily score 25-35 points with just a couple drivers having issues.
