The Monster Energy Cup Series heads to Kansas Speedway this week. The 1.5 mile track will see the 2019 aero and engine rules package in use. Multiple drivers have stated that they believe this track will bring out the best in the new rules package. As for the race, I don’t believe using past history at Kansas is as important thie week. I believe it will be more important to use past history of the 2019 rules package so far this year. This means JGR and Penske should be the early week favorites. Kansas does reward teams that hit on the mechanical side of the setup more than most 1.5 mile tracks which means we can see some above average performances from the mid to lower tier teams.

Lineup Building

Dominator / Top Tier

This week we will look to play 2 dominators based of the recently track history. However, it is important to note that both Texas and Vegas this year saw the laps led spread out much more between multiple drivers. Texas for instance saw 6 drivers lead between 30 and 66 Laps. While I do expect handling to be more of a factor thus creating more of a separation between the best cars, we could definitely see a similar situation as Texas which would change the dominator needs for this slate. Due to the lower number of laps with the race only being 400 miles the pricing for the top guys on draftkings has dropped accordingly. This will help when it comes to putting a more complete lineup together. The pre-race favorites are Kyle Busch, Kevin Harvick and all 3 of the Penske drivers (Keselowski, Logano & Blaney)

Mid to Low Tier

There is so much value in this group this week. Given the lower top tier pricing this week it should be much easier to fit multiple drivers in this range. We have seen many of the lower tier teams like JTG and Front Row have great runs at Kansas in recent years. Buescher finished 6th in the fall of 2017 and David Ragan has an average finish of 16.50 in his last 4 races here. Pay close attention to practice to see if there are sneaky plays showing good long run speed.

Punts

Really haven’t like anyone from this group all year and this week is no different. This group is too far off the rest of the field and offer very little in terms of upside especially given the lower DNF rate here at Kansas. The only reason to take a driver from this area should be if you are paying up to get additional dominator or driver with top 5 potential.

I will be giving my Fanduel Top Plays in a VIP article prior to the race.
