MME Playbook for FanDuel and DraftKings MLB DFS: 5/22

Donuts to Dollars

The GPP/MME playbook is more or less a foundation to build upon for your DFS tournament strategy and mass-multi entry (MME) adventures. I personally am a full-time MME player across all major platforms each night. The strategy I have laid out for you is where I personally am with how I plan on attacking the slate.

Hit me up on Twitter  @DFSnDONUTS and you can also find me on YouTube | Twitch  | iTunes with supplemental commentary and teaching. You’ll really find me in our VIP coaching forums inside coaching and detailing plays and strategic concepts from contest selection to lineup construction across all our main sports.

MLB DFS Pitching Pool for MME

Matt Harvey is a nice leverage option against the Twins who continue to carry elevated ownership (and rightfully so). However, Harvey looks better this season and isn’t just a warm body being sacrificed to opposing hitters this season. He has given up just 12 ER over his last 26.2 IP while striking out 20 batters over those 5 games. While his ceiling is very low and his floor isn’t that good either, his price tag leaves plenty of wiggle room for MME upside.

Gerrit Cole has allowed just a 25% hard hit rate over his last two starts and actually has increased his velocity by 0.9 MPH. He’s throwing hard and with control (66% strike ratio). The White Sox can go ice cold in the batters box and Gerrit has the highest floor of the elite priced arms today based on their current form (deGrom and Mad Max as the other two).

MME Pitchers I’ll give a minimum 3-5%

Jose Urena is really cheap and has some upside. He’s also going to be single digit owned against a team that cannot hit right-handed pitchers. Urena can throw fireballs and has a 95.8 MPH velocity this season. Over his last two starts he’s managed to limit opposing hitters to just a 29% hard hit rate, too. Upside is there, he’s in good form, and the matchup is nice. He was VERY close to being my single entry option today and would make for a fine #2 on DK with Perez.

Martin Perez has held opposing hitters to a 90 MPH exit velocity and 196 foot distance on all batted ball events this season. He has scored 55, 58, 27, and 48 FanDuel points over his last four starts and has allowed just 6 ER in his last 38.2 innings pitched. He’s been absolutely electric. His ceiling matches that of deGrom and Scherzer and his floor has been higher than both of theirs this season. They’re an easy fade today for me.

Max Fried gets a nice matchup on the road against the weak and feeble Giants offense. Fried has been strong this season and has scored 33 and 43 FanDuel points in his last two starrts. In fact, Fried has a pretty strong floor as he has scored 25 or more in all but one start this season and has reached 40 or more FanDuel points in 5 out of his last 9 starts. He’s in good position for a quality start and victory if the bats can get to Jeff Samardzija.

Single Entry GPP Pitchers

Martin Perez will hopefully be pitcher 16 out of 19 articles that finish as a top-3 scorer on the slate after they end up my single entry selection. Lance Lynn delivered a season-best performance for us yesterday, so let’s hope Perez can keep the heater going.

Specific Daily Fantasy MLB Stacks and Teams to Target for Stacking for GPPs and MME

When I select my stacks I like to run through the trending tab, batter matchups tab, top-10 lists for a bunch of different stats, and the top rated players within the Research Station. I set the FanDuel stacks to 4-3 and the DraftKings stacks to 5-2 in the DFS Army optimizer.

Tier 1 Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I want to stack with my highest exposure. Whether you decide to use the controlled stacks (example below) or the randomized stack exposure (as I do, the example provided), I’ll have my highest percentage on the Tier 1 teams).

New York Yankees (60-80%)

Their bats are crushing the ball and they have another delicious matchup against a team who’s bullpen has been battered as of late, too. Dan Straily and his 40% hard hit rate and 57% strike ratio over the last three games face the Bronx Bombers. He’s given up 3 HRs and 15 ER over the last 12 IP. Yikes!

Houston Astros (40-60%)

Ivan Nova has given up 10 HRs and 24 ERs in just 25.2 IP since April 23rd. Oh. My.Word… Don’t get too cute. This is another spot like the Yankees against David Hess on Tuesday. Sometimes when it appears to good to be true – it isn’t, and it’s just friggin awesome. Astros haven’t popped in a few games and they’re bound to regress soon – I fully expect that to happen tonight.

Tier 2 Stacks for FanDuel and DraftKings

These are the teams I am generally using to hedge my pitcher investment and/or don’t have a clear read on what might happen but understand extreme outcomes are possible.

Boston Red Sox (20-40%)

Aaron Sanchez is not a terrible pitcher and the Red Sox offense has slowed down just a wee bit over the last week. However, this offense is dripping with potential and Rafael Devers has been crushing the ball as of late (notice I did not say producing big numbers), and I think that this could be the game where the bottom of the order keeps rally’s alive. Jackie Bradley, Rafael Devers, and Michael Davis make for a phenomenal bottom of the order single-digit ownership stack.

Chicago Cubs (20-40%)

The wind looks like it might be blowing out in this game and we know that’s when you are supposed to target Wrigley Field pitchers. I want exposure to both sides but really like the Cubbies today against the youngster, Cole Irvin with the Chicago righties.

Philadelphia Phillies (20-40%)

The Cubs bullpen has been absolutely wretched over the last couple of weeks. If the Phillies can get to Hamels early (tough ask though), they’ll get to face the worst bullpen in the league over the last 14 days in several different categories.

Remaining Exposure Percentage

Any remaining exposure percentage that is leftover I am going to allow the optimizer to fill in at random. Baseball is incredibly volatile and hard to predict. While we can project outcomes, predicting them is inherently a losing battle. Allowing the DS to plug in stacks embraces the random factor that MLB DFS has to offer.

Or if you want to have controlled stacks and select the specific players you want to be used and in what type of stacks then you can used the controlled hitter stack setting. This is just an example and I randomly clicked through quickly and was able to pump out 50 lineups in a flash. I would also make sure the stack percentage was at 100% on each side for a real optimized CSV file.

Domination Station DFS Optimizer for GPP’s and Mass-Multi Entering (MME)

This is how I personally use the DFS Army Domination Station optimizer for MLB MME

  1. Cut all pitchers out of my player pool that I know I 100% DO NOT WANT

    1. Add in all the pitchers I am okay with the optimizer using and then put 3-5% minimum exposure on my favorite pitchers (the above pitching pool). This ensures that they show up in at least 7-10 out of my 150 lineups.
  2. Identify all teams I want to stack

    1. If using controlled stacks then create my player pool of hitters for MME
    2. If using the randomized stacks (which I do) then I begin to create percentages for all my favorite teams to target adding up to 160-180%
    3. Leave 20-40% stack exposure to allow the optimizer to fill in some random optimized stacks according to your pitcher pool to have some unbiased lineups
  3. Prepare my 150 entry settings

    1. 3 uniques
    2. optimal mode
    3. DFS Army points
    4. Make sure allow opposing pitchers is unchecked
    5. Maximum exposure cap of 60% is how I roll with it. The higher the exposure cap the more “all-in” you will be on a player or two (which I am not a fan of for MLB right now)
    6. Set random stack setting to 4-3 for FanDuel and 5-2 for DraftKings
  4. Run the optimizer
    1. Look at the batters used in the stacks. Did I create 100 Houston lineups and only get 5 George Springers? Okay, use the like/love/adore buttons or boost his projection until I get more of him. Did I get 50 out of 50 Boston stacks with Jackie Bradley and no J.D. Martinez? Boost Martinez and potentially use the dislike buttons on Bradley until he’s a bit lower and Martinez is involved.
    2. You have to tinker a bit to get the higher upside guys sometimes ^^^
  5. Re-run the optimizer until you get what you’re looking for
    1. Go watch Netflix until the games are over
    2. Make a plate of chips and salsa, too
