Hunting Homers – DFS MLB Power Picks and Homeruns for Higher Fanduel and Draftkings Scores – May 28

Welcome to a test version of a future MLB article from your friends at DFS Army.  The goal of this piece will be to find those homeruns that boost your DFS scores and have you leapfrogging leaderboard spots in bunches.  We will focus solely on power numbers for both bats and pitchers, and we will largely center around the ISO metric indicating raw power.

All numbers cited are produced for VIPs daily inside our MLB Research Station.  We may cross-reference some with Trends tabs, Pitching Hubs, and various other stats, but we largely focus on the hitter’s ISO and the pitcher’s ISO against.  We aim to find strength on weakness, so let’s dive in for today’s quick Hunting Homers plays…

#200on200 MLB Picks for May 28

Corbin Martin – Our list is so large today, we are going to keep it very simple being the premise of this article is to point out the pitchers allowing over .200 ISO to a particular handedness that happen to be facing batters also hitting over .200 ISO vs the handedness of the pitcher in question.  Corbin gives a whopping .417, so far, to righties.  CHC bats hitting over .200 against RHP – Bryant, Rizzo, possibly Contreras (not over .200 but close).

Adrian Sampson – .251 vs right handers.  SEA bats in play – Encarnacion, Santana, Hangier.

Dylan Bundy – Bundy will appear twice….yes, he gives up ISO to both sides.  But, first, .235 to righties.  DET bats in play – none…..but, Castellanos is close at .192 ISO.  Why list it?  Because fireworks might happen anyway with a pitcher giving that kind of power away.  Be ready, you contrarians!

Jeff Samardjiza – Or however you spell his name.  Sarge gives a .229 to lefties.  So, MIA bats in play  – Granderson and small sample size Harold Ramirez.

Remember to ensure your bats are in the starting lineup…or even up in the majors.  I’m mentioning my sheet as inclusively as possible and am not looking at starting lineups being released.  It is your responsibility to cross check with other research and to make sure your hitters of choice don’t come blindly off someone’s list.  You need to make sure they are not injured and they are actually going to see at bats today.

Merrill Kelly – .226 ISO to right handed bats.  COL bats in play – Arenado (my lock dong call today), Story, Reynolds, Iannetta.  Umm….this one is also in Coors.

Frankie Montas – .223 to lefties.  LAA bats in play – Ohtani, Goodrum, Bour.  For those wondering, Trout is a righty.  While he has a sick and twisted .339 ISO vs right handed pitching, Montas only allows a .115 ISO to righties.  Does that mean Trout won’t get him?  No.  It means it’s less likely, though.  Trout is Trout, but I prefer him in softer spots.

Lucas Sims – .221 to righties.  PIT – None, but like DET, they might hit him hard being he gives power liberally.

Steven Matz – .217 to righties.  LAD bats in play – Turner, Kike, Taylor………but you might want to consult our Trends Tab for the L7 WOBA plays.  I’d rather focus on which of these #200on200 guys is also hitting well recently rather than just take some ISO vs ISO numbers without additional research.  As luck would have it, our Research Station featured in this article has enough numbers to make a referee go blind.  Wait a minute………they are already blind.  Bazinga!

Let’s look at the trending tab quickly for OF hot hitters on the 4-game, Draftkings Turbo slate tonight….  Sorting by the L7 woba column in descending order quickly brings the hottest hitters over the past week to the top.  Max Kepler, Eddie Rosario, and Christian Yelich might not be sneaky plays.  But, Albert Almora is hot and still cheap……many people don’t see this yet.  But, by paying attention to shorter samples, you can find those streaking players before pricing catches up to them and double dip the hot hitting with cheap prices in order to #RaiseYourEdge on the field.  You need access to this tool!

Trevor Richards – .216 ISO allowed to right handed bats.  A ground ball guy most times, he does have a weak spot.  And, we can possibly exploit it.  SFG bats in play – Well, another weaker hitting team facing a spot we’d like to use.  But, Tyler Austin is over .200 ISO himself.  He’s playable.

Nick Pivetta – .214 to righties.  Good thing STL is loaded with righties.  STL bats in play – Goldschmidt, Ozuna, DeJong

Masahiro Tanaka – .208 allowed to righties.  SD bats in play – Reyes, Machado, Renfroe, Myers.  Secret tip #3 – When you see several bats from the same team all hitting for ISO against a pitcher giving it up, it’s time to consider this a core stacking play tonight.  If it’s cheap, all the better. If it’s lower owned, all the better.  If it works, you have tremendous bang for your buck and a solid investment on your hands………which is really all DFS is when we get down to it……….investing smartly.

Trevor Cahill – .204 ISO to righties.  Note to self, never name my kid Trevor.  He might make the bigs, but he might give up the long ball.  OAK bats in play – Chapman, Pinder, Barretto

Dylan Bundy – .202 to lefties.  Well, well, well, Dylan, we meet again…. DET bats in play – Dixon, Stewart, Goodrum

MLB Honorable Mentions

Here are a few other pitchers to watch tonight that just didn’t give the ISO against I’m looking for in this particular article…

List is so large tonight, no need for “honorable mentions.”

*This #200on200 thing is just one parameter in which you might look through the RS for when choosing thunder bats*.  When you find one of your own, feel free to tweet me @Choppodong or @dfsarmy on Twitter, and let’s have some fun with this metric!

Obviously, there are many other MLB coaching notes, methodologies, and processes to evaluate. But, ISO given up by a pitcher to the power ISO of a bat just makes logical sense and is here to point out great matchups………..not predict results. In conjunction with other factors, though, you can really find some 5-star matchups tonight and put yourself in a great position to accumulate some points in bunches. Try it tonight.

(One way to crosscheck this number is to look at L7 woba (in Trends tab of our Research Station) and see who is also hitting well recently. I would be less excited about some great #200on200 guy hitting .150 woba over the last week than if I found some guy hitting a .500 and tearing the cover off the ball when he finds this kind of matchup tonight.)
