NHL Puck Drop with MDell Position Breakdown and Advice Strategy Tips for Fanduel Hockey March 25th, 2019

Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!

For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!

I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!

Before we dive in, check out some of the recent DFS Army Winners!

Here at the DFS ARMY, we COACH, TEACH, and HELP our members create winning lineups. Nothing is spoon fed here, you put in the work, you will see results. We will help you become a better DFS player in ALL sports, so join up today! Use the promo code “MDELL” to save 20% at checkout!

All Stats are over the Last 3 weeks (8-11 games) unless noticed otherwise!

Goalies

Matt Murray (8.9k): Murray has been on a roll over his last 4 games. Other than his bad loss to the Blues, he has been so consistent for the Penguins. This matchup against the Rangers is amazing too. The Rangers have not been scoring (except last game) and Murray has been great. The Penguins are playing great defense of late too allowing just 2.05 goals against/game in the last 10 games. ALL FORMATS

Connor Hellebuyck (8k): Dallas is a great defensive team, but they don’t do much on offense either. Helle has been very good of late and has good home numbers. In his career against the Stars, he’s 7-3-1 with a .927% and 2.26 GAA. ALL FORMATS

Jordan Binnington (8.6k): Not sure if he will get the start again, but he should. He’s been much better than Jake Allen this year. This matchup with Vegas is NOT easy, but I see tons of upside for saves. We had him in his last start against the Bolts and he succeeded. Amazing upside here for Binnington, who could see 40 SOG tonight. GPP

Ben Bishop (9.2k): Expensive, but he’s been great. Now, this matchup is definitely not easy on the road against the Jets, but Bishop, when healthy is one of the best goaltenders in the NHL. Dallas needs as many wins as they can get and Bishop’s good play along with their great defense gives him upside. LEAN GPP

UPDATE: ADDING MARTIN JONES AS A GOALIE I LIKE  ALL FORMATS

Centers

Aleksander Barkov (8.2k): A bad game last time out, but he has a good matchup here against Toronto. Florida is still rolling and he’s been on a tear. Toronto is allowing 3.67 goals/game in the last 10 games.

Auston Matthews (8.6k): Dudded in his last game against the Rangers, but I don’t expect that to happen again. This game could be high scoring and Matthews has had a great floor of late. He has 31 SOG in his last 5 games and another one will find the back of the net soon.

Sidney Crosby (9.2k): He’s very expsensive, but he’s in a goal drought and has a prime matchup to change that tonight. He has a great career against the Rangers with 86 points (32 goals, 54 assists). I think getting Rust back healthy is going to help Crosby too. It wouldn’t surprise me to see Crosby go nuts tonight.

Patrice Bergeron (8.3k): Tough matchup for Boston tonight, but Vasil still can allow goals. Bergy has been on a tear and getting Pasta back in the mix helps him too. In his last 5 games, he has 21 SOG with 5 goals and 3 assists.

Tyler Seguin (8.2k): Although I like Hellebuyck tonight, Seguin is such a consistent cash guy. His shots are so consistent as he has 34 SOG in his last 5 games. DAL1 could be a little sneaky tonight as Hellebuyck can struggle at times.

Tomas Hertl (6.5k): The Sharks did not play well last game against the Ducks and they need to bounce back. They will need this 2nd line to start heating up again, and what perfect time than against the Red Wings. He has an electric shot and they should have plenty of chances tonight.

Mikael Backlund (6.1k): Calgary 2 is still playing great and the Kings struggle. Backlund is getting expensive now though but he does have 20 SOG in the last 5 games with 1 goal and 2 assists.

Others to consider: Steven Stamkos, John Tavares, Logan Couture

I do have some other center plays, but those will be for DFS ARMY VIPs ONLY! Sign up using the promo code MDELL to get all of my plays tonight and save 20% on every month!

Wings

Brad Marchand/David Pastrnak (8.5k/7.8k): Boston 1 has been on fire and a matchup with Tampa Bay in a possible Eastern Conference Finals series. They are both expensive, but their production has been great of late. The matchup isn’t as good on paper, but they can still pop off.

Jake Guentzel (8k): Guentzel has been back and forth with good games and bad games. Tonight, the Penguins get a great matchup with the Rangers. It seems since Rust has come back they have started to find their rhythm again. Anyone who plays with Sidney Crosby has upside.

Jonathan Huberdeau (7.5k): Again, Florida1 struggled against a good defensive team in Boston the other night but can bounce back here. He’s the assist man on the top line and has an amazing 7 assists in his last 5 games.

Mike Hoffman (6.3k): I like the FLA PP units as they are firing on all cylinders. Hoffman playing with Trocheck raises his upside. He scored a goal and had an assist against Boston too.

Matthew Tkachuk (6.9k): His price is way up there now, but so has his production. The Flames have a great matchup here with the Kings tonight and will likely be chalky. Matthew has 4 goals, 4 assists, and 18 SOG in his last 5 games.

Bryan Rust (5k): Cheap and playing on the PIT1 line with Crosby and Guentzel. Has looked good since coming off an injury and still a decent price.

TORONTO1/2 WINGS: Look, I like them all. Mitch Marner, William Nylander, Zach Hyman, and Andreas Johnsson. All have immense upside tonight in a likely high scoring matchup with the Panthers. Mix and match them depending on which center you use (Tavares or Matthews).

Alexander Radulov (6.6k): His price is on the rise, but he’s been consistent. He has scored under 8 fanduel points just 3 times in his last 10 games and has been shooting a ton, 24 SOG in L5. Winnipeg is playing better defense of late, but DAL1 could be sneaky.

Dustin Brown (6.3k): Shooting machine of late and will be against the chalk goalie. Brown has shown that he can score and his shots have been there lately. He’s coming off points in 4 straight games and will look to keep it going here.

Defensemen

UPDATE. LETANG IS OUT, THATS WHY HE IS REMOVED

Mark Giordano (7.2k): Up near the top in goals scored as a D-Man in the NHL and he continues to show consistency for the Flames. He’s been involved in a lot of the scoring and has a great matchup here. We won’t be able to use both in cash, but if you can spend up for either one I don’t think you can go wrong.

Morgan Rielly (6.4k): Again, a great matchup for TOR tonight against Florida. He had an insane 14 SOGBS last game and just didn’t find the back of the net. If he continues to keep his shots up, he should score soon.

Ryan McDonagh (5k): Still a tough matchup for TB, but his floor has been amazing for just 5k. He has points in two straight against good defensive teams too. What raises his floor is BOS will shoot a ton and he has 18 blocks in his last 5 games to go along with 12 shots, 1 goal, and 4 assists.

Marc-Edouard Vlasic (4.4k): The Sharks need some Dmen to produce without Karlsson still. Burns has been doing his thing, but Vlasic has been doing great too. He has a floor of about 8 of late and this matchup is great. He’s a great value play tonight to save on D.

Others to Consider: Roman Josi
