NHL Puck Drop with MDell Position Breakdown and Advice Strategy Tips for Fanduel Hockey March 23rd, 2019

Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!

For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!

I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!

Before we dive in, check out some of the recent DFS Army Winners!

Here at the DFS ARMY, we COACH, TEACH, and HELP our members create winning lineups. Nothing is spoon fed here, you put in the work, you will see results. Ask anyone who is with us, they want to learn and want to win, and DO win. Just takes some time and effort from both parties. We will help you become a better DFS player in ALL sports, so join up today! Use the promo code “MDELL” to save 20% at checkout!

All Stats are over the Last 3 weeks (8-11 games) unless noticed otherwise!

Goalies

Carey Price (9k): A little expensive for Price, but I love him tonight. It’s hard not to use him against a Buffalo team that is scoring fewer than 2 goals/game in their last 10. Price also has not allowed more than 2 goals in each of his last 5 starts with one SO against the Islanders. Buffalo doesn’t scare me, and Price has been very good lately. The Canadians are still pushing for that final playoff spot and will need Price to be on the top of his game. ALL FORMATS

Marc-Andre Fleury/Malcolm Subban (9.1k/7.7k): Whichever guy starts, I like here tonight. I hope to see MAF back here, but they won’t rush him back. The Red Wings are scoring just about as much as the Sabres in the last 10 and Vegas has been playing the best hockey since the ASB in the NHL. If Subban does start, he’s very cheap and likely will be my cash goalie and very chalky tonight. ALL FORMATS FOR BOTH

Anton Khudobin (8.1k): I really wish Dallas was smart and started Bishop here tonight, but we have to settle with Khudobin. He hasn’t been able to get wins lately, but he hasn’t allowed more than 3 goals in a game since mid-February. Without Malkin, the Penguins have struggled this season. In their last 10 games, they are scoring just 2.5 goals/game and Dallas is still playing very good defense. I don’t trust him in cash, but he’s a great GPP play. GPP

Andrei Vasilevskiy (9.6k): Very expensive still in a tougher matchup. With that being said, Vasil is still one of, if not the best goaltender in the NHL right now and the Blues have shown struggles during the season. In his career against St. Louis, Vasil has a .946% with a 1.68 GAA, those are pretty solid numbers. The Blues are playing a bit better of late, but Vasil is still one of the best. He’s expensive but should be able to win tonight. GPP

Jordan Binnington (8.6k): No one will even touch him tonight against the Lightning. He’s a fantastic high risk, high reward tournament play tonight. He’s been amazing all season and has won 3 straight games. Last time he faced the Bolts he shut them out. Now, I don’t see that happening again, but there is tons of upside here. GPP ONLY

Frederik Andersen (8.4k): He’s been absolutely horrible of late, but this matchup against the Rangers is the perfect spot to bounce back. I see him getting a win here tonight which will help his fanduel point output. The Rangers are not scoring and Toronto’s offense has been hot of late. Tonight is the night that Freddy bounces back. ALL FORMATS

Centers

Patrice Bergeron (8.4k): Bergy is good for 3-4 SOG per game and now that he has Pasta back, his upside is even higher. This is a great matchup with Florida here tonight. BOS1 is one of my favorite stacks on this slate.

Auston Matthews (8.6k): A recent hot streak has jumped his price a bit. He has been shooting a TON of late. In his last 5 games, he has an astonishing 32 SOG with 4 goals and 3 assists. The upside is great against the Rangers tonight too.

Aleksander Barkov (8.2k): WOW his hot play has sky-rocketed his price. This matchup with Boston is not the best, but Halak is starting and he can be leaky. Florida has been one of the better teams in the NHL of late and their Power Play is still one of the best. Boston is averaging 3.4 penalties a game in their last 10 games and a PK% of 83%. I’ll keep Florida more in GPPs, but I still love their PP unit.

William Karlsson (6.7k): If you don’t play Vegas tonight, don’t even play NHL DFS today. They are the hottest team in the NHL since the ASB and Karlsson and their top line has been on fire. 3 goals, 5 assists, and 11 SOG in his last 5 games and VGK1 has 8 goals in their last 3 games.

Bo Horvat (6.1k): His last two games he has been on fire. Even before his dud of a game against Dallas, he was rolling. He has scored 14.9 or more Fanduel points in 5 of his last 6 games with 4 goals, 5 assists, and 18 SOGBS.

Others to consider: John Tavares, Steven Stamkos, Tyler Seguin (SOG are up of late), Elias Pettersson, Paul Stastny,

Wings

Jonathan Marchessault/Reilly Smith (7k/6.4k): One, if not both of these guys will be in my cash lineup tonight. Smith is a tad cheaper, so he’ll probably be my guy. In tournaments, use their whole top line. In the last 10 games, they have 13 goals and 8 are in the last 3 alone! This matchup with DET is too good to pass up.

Brad Marchand/David Pastrnak (8.6k): Absolutely love these two tonight. I worry that with Pasta back, Marchand’s production will take a small hit, but regardless, this is an amazing matchup for them tonight.

Jonathan Huberdeau (7.5k): I see this game shooting out tonight with BOS healthy and FLA on fire. Hub has been on an absurd tear of late. His game is getting assists with a couple of SOG. He has 7 assists in his last 5 games too. Halak is leaky and FLA1 has 14 goals in their last 10 games.

Matthew Tkachuk (6.8k): His price and production keep going up. This matchup is decent against Vancouver and he’s been consistent with 3-5 SOG of late. He has upside and is on a line with 10 goals in their last 10 games.

Alex Tuch (4.4k): It looks like he will be taking Pacioretty’s spot on the 2nd line for Vegas. If that is confirmed, he makes for a wonderful value play here tonight. Playing with Stastny and Stone will bring high upside for Tuch tonight.

Jake DeBrusk (5.7k): His price has come down a little after some iffy games since coming back. This is a great time to bounce back against Florida though. We know his upside when healthy too.

Alexander Radulov (6.7k): I don’t love Dallas tonight, but we cannot argue with the production we are getting from Rad lately. He has 54 SOGBS (including 21 blocks!) in his last 10 games and is averaging 19.4 fanduel points. PIT hasn’t been playing the best of late and Rad usually produces.

Andreas Johnsson (4.6k)/William Nylander (4.9k): Again, pair these two with Matthews. They are still both cheap and have goal/assist upside in this matchup. I slightly prefer Nylander, but in GPPs, stack up this whole line.

Others to Consider: Johnny Gaudreau (high SOG upside), Zach Parise, Dustin Brown, Evgenii Dadonov, David Perron.

I do have a few other Wingers that I like tonight, especially for tournaments! Join up at the DFS ARMY to get them! Don’t forget promo code “MDELL” saves you 20%!

Defensemen

Morgan Rielly (6.4k): Perfect time to bounce back for Rielly. After two horrible games, he gets a great matchup against the Rangers tonight.

Roman Josi (6.5k): Josi is still producing and this is a fast-paced game. Hellebuyck can struggle and Josi has a rocket shot. He has 57 SOGBS in his last 10 games and brings a solid floor to the table.

Alex Edler (5.2k): Still too cheap for what he’s bringing to the table. Great matchup against Calgary too. He has 62 SOGBS in his last 10 games and has a floor of 8+ every single night. I’m going to just keep locking him in as one of my D men until he stops producing.

Shea Weber (5.8k): The pair of Edler and Weber will bring you an average of 6.5 SOGBS per game each. Both have amazing matchups and both will be in a lot of my lineups.

Shea Theodore (4.7k): I love Vegas D men tonight too. Theo has 46 SOGBS in his last 10 games with an average of 15.5 fanduel points. He’s been shooting a bit more of late and DET is not good.

Ryan McDonagh (5.1k): McDonagh has shown a solid floor of late and is one of the hotter D-men with 25 SOGBS in his last 5 games averaging 16.8 fanduel points. This is a tougher matchup for TB tonight, but he is blocking 3-4 shots every game of late.

Jacob Trouba (5.4k): Trouba is still producing for the Jets of late. He has 49 SOGBS in his last 10 games and Nashville can struggle on the road sometimes.

Victor Hedman (6.7k): I don’t love the bolts here tonight, but Hedman has been consistent of late. He’s averaging 24.1 FD points in his last 5 games and has 6 assists over his last 5 games. He’s good for 14+ points on most nights of late.

Others to Consider: Dougie Hamilton, Alex Pietrangelo, Mark Giordano (little too expensive for me, but still in play), Nate Schmidt, Cam Fowler
