NHL Puck Drop with MDell Position Breakdown and Advice Strategy Tips for Fanduel Hockey March 11th, 2019

Hello folks and welcome to my NHL Positional Breakdown for Fanduel!

For those of you who are new to the DFS Army, new to NHL DFS, or just like to read different articles, my name is Matt Dell’Agnese and I’m an MLB and NHL coach and writer for the DFS Army. Hit me for a follow on twitter at mdellagnese14. If you are a DFS Army VIP member you will know that I’m fairly active in our NHL rooms and around to help coach for the amazing sport of Hockey. I was brought to the DFS Army in January and I wrote Painting the Black for baseball, analyzing pitching picks for the slates. If you’ve played MLB, NHL is very similar. The sports are both volatile and players can put up a 0 or low score at any time. Don’t get discouraged if you get cold, just keep with your process and the players will come around. For cash games, you want to correlate players who skate on the same line or same Power play line, in GPPs stack up the full lines. Thankfully, Chop has asked me to help out with our NHL content articles!

I will be breaking down each position with the players who I like with my reasonings for liking them on the slate! I am a Fanduel player, so these articles will include Fanduel pricing and scoring references! Remember to always check for confirmation of goalies and lines!

Before we dive in, check out some of the recent DFS Army Winners!

Here at the DFS ARMY, we COACH, TEACH, and HELP our members create winning lineups. Nothing is spoon fed here, you put in the work, you will see results. Ask anyone who is with us, they want to learn and want to win, and DO win. Just takes some time and effort from both parties. We will help you become a better DFS player in ALL sports, so join up today! Use the promo code “MDELL” to save 20% at checkout!

Goalies

AS OF WRITING THIS (10 PM EST ON 3/10, NO GOALIES ARE CONFIRMED. MAKE SURE YOU CHECK THE CONFIRMED GOALIES BEFORE USING SOMEONE!

Sergei Bobrovsky: Goalies are hard on this slate tonight when Bob is the first one listed. He’s starting to heat up again after 2 straight games allowing just 1 goal. The Islanders have been allowing goals lately and Bob should do a good job stopping them from scoring. In his career, he is 15-7-0 with a .924% and 2.34 GAA against the Islanders. The Blue Jackets offense has not clicked yet since the deadline, but they will soon. I do think this game is going to be rather low scoring though. ALL FORMATS

Darcy Kuemper: Tournament only play for me tonight. Kuemper has been on aa roll, along with the rest of the Coyotes team. That being said, he’s GPP only because Chicago is a high powered offense. They are cooling down a bit, but here’s the thing, they are averaging 37 SOG in their last 10 games. The Yotes are allowing 31.67 SOG/game in that span but are only allowing 2.06 goals and their PK has been great. Chicago’s PP% has been on the decline too. I love the upside here, but be warned, he could get blown up. GPP ONLY

FLYERS GOALIE: I’m reading in some places that Carter Hart could return in this game, but either way I like both goalies against the Senators. We will target the Sens with goalies probably the rest of the year. Elliot has done a great job filling in for the young Hart, but whoever starts I will like. The Senators are scoring just 1.69 Goals/game in their last 10 and aren’t shooting as much as they were before either. HYBRID

Petr Mrazek: I think he gets the start here since he’s been rolling lately. The Avs just lost Landeskog for awhile and now look to be back to splitting Rantanen and Nate up. Over his last 5 starts, Mrazek has a .935 sv% and a 2.0 GAA. He’s been facing some high powered offenses too in Nashville, Florida and Dallas who all put up over 30 shots against him. GPP ONLY

Thomas Greiss: The Islanders have been struggling of late and Greiss got demolished against the Flyers last start. Perfect time to go back in tournaments. It looks like Lehner is DTD so I think Greiss gets the start again. Like I said above, the Jackets are not scoring much of late. They have just 21 goals in the last 10 games. He’s been good most of this year and he will return back to form, but since the Isles have been bad lately, I’m keeping him in TOURNAMENTS ONLY.

Others to consider: Martin Jones (not much upside, but finds ways to get Wins. SJ is in a great spot, but we want more for his higher price tag)

Centers

Connor McDavid: McJesus is still rolling and has a great matchup with the Rangers. No one is really going to play him because no one really plays the last game of the night. He has been getting so many assists and I LOVE a stack of him and Draisaitl. He has 9 assists in his last 5 games with a goal. McDavid will get into the goal column soon, and add in a few more assists too.

Sean Couturier: Couts has been absolutely rolling for the Flyers as they make a playoff push. Voracek is out for 2 games because of a suspension, so the Couturier will need to step up. This is a great matchup with OTT and he has been so consistent of late.

Sebastian Aho: I swear this guy hates me. He really does. I’m all over him and he scores 1.6, then the next day scores 25.3. Well, I like him again tonight against Colorado. The Hurricanes are rolling and Colorado lost Landeskog for most of, if not the rest of the year.

Logan Couture: The Sharks are in a great spot here tonight against the Wild. Their PP% is amazing and they are scoring 3.46 goals/game of late. Couture’s line has been pretty good of late and in his last 6 games, he has 5 assists, 1 goal, and 26 SOGBS.

Tomas Hertl: He’s starting to heat back up again over his last 4 games. He has at least 16 fd points in his last 4 games and has 13 SOGBS in his last 4 with 3 assists and 2 goals.

Mika Zibanejad: No one ever plays him, and he’s been rather cold of late. I do like this matchup with EDM as they are allowing a bunch of shots and have a mediocre penalty kill. We know the upside Zib has, but he hasn’t shown it lately. I would only use him in NYR stacks in tournaments though.

I do have 2 more Center picks that I like tonight, but those will be for DFS Army VIPs only. Sign up today to find out who those are!

Others to consider: Steven Stamkos, John Tavares (GPP ONLY), Brayden Point (GPP),

Wings

Nikita Kucherov: Andersen has HORRIBLE numbers against the Bolts in his career. They are 3-7-1 with a .881% and 3.66 GAA. Kuch is rolling and just broke the Lightning season points record. He’s pushing for the MVP and could be lower owned tonight because of the matchup.

Patrick Kane: I’m not as high on either of these guys tonight as I usually am. Arizona is playing good defense lately, but Kane is still Kane. He always has upside and has back to back 20+ point fanduel games. I like him in GPP STACKS, but I won’t use him in cash games tonight.

Leon Draisaitl: My favorite winger on this slate. Stack him with McJesus and watch them be low owned. He’s been on FIRE of late. He seems to always have double-digit points and is much cheaper than the top two guys. He’s shooting, scoring, and assisting. Just build around him tonight.

Claude Giroux: I love the 2nd line for the Flyers tonight. I hope they keep them together and move up Konecny and keep JVR and Giroux on the second line. Either way, Giroux will need to pick up play, just like Couts. He has been consistently putting up good fantasy point games too.

Jason Zucker: Didn’t perform last game, but other than two games he’s been consistent lately. He’s been shooting and getting a couple of blocks too. This game could be pretty high scoring tonight and I like the top line of Minnesota for their value.

James van Riemsdyk: Like I said above, I hope he stays on PHI2. Keep an eye out, either pair him with Giroux (if on PHI2) or pair him with Couturier (if moved to PHI1). He’s been playing good and averaging 3 SOG per game with point upside.

Timo Meier: No one is going to play Meier and he’s starting to heat back up again. I love SJ1 tonight and he had 7 SOG last game. Before that, he was still shooting and had a couple of goals. He actually has goals in 4 straight games. The upside is here for sure and will be in my SJ stacks. He’s still cheap and a great value CASH play too.

Brady Tkachuk: I like Philly, but they can still allow goals. I love the way Tkachuk is leading this young OTT team lately. He has goals in 2 straight and has been shooting a lot more. He had 6 two games ago and 7 in a game recently. He’s cheap still and I wouldn’t mind using him in cash.

Others to consider: Nino Niederreiter, Justin Williams (both in stacks mainly with Aho), Travis Konecny (if moved up to PHI1 or PHI2), Jimmy Vesey, Josh Anderson

I do have more wing plays too, that I’m leaving exclusively for DFS ARMY VIPS only. Again, Sign up using the promo code “MDELL” at checkout to save 20% and get all of our tools, coaching picks, notes and more!

Defensemen

Oliver Ekman-Larsson: Still too cheap for what he brings to the table. I really like the Yotes here tonight and OEL is going to be right in the middle of it. He had two down games, but other than that has been really good. Chicago is still allowing a bunch of shots and their PK% is the worst on this slate. Definitely has upside here.

Tyson Barrie: I like Mrazek if he starts for CAR, but Barrie has shown a good floor of late. He’s shooting a bunch more and getting in the point column. Over his last 5 games, he has 28 SOGBS with a goal and 2 assists.

Morgan Rielly: I don’t like much in this game because both teams are amazing on both ends of the ice. Rielly though has shown that he can still get 8+ points. At his price, we want closer to 20, which he has done in 3 of his last 4 games. I see block shot upside and he could pot one in, in this fast-paced game.

Victor Hedman: The other side of the game I don’t mind. Hedman has been more consistent lately, averaging 3.16 SOG/game in his last 6 games. Like I said above, Andersen has HORRIBLE numbers against the Bolts, so I see upside here.

Travis Sanheim: Great matchup here and he’s been playing very good. He’ still cheap and is getting involved in everything for the Flyers.

Others to Consider: Nick Leddy, Oscar Klefbom, Jacob Chychrun
