Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings March 1st

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 1/3/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching, and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process, or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research Station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 20% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Take a peek at our latest winner.  DFSA is on fire over NBA All Star Break and would love to help you learn the game of hockey, as well!  Whether you are already a VIP or are just passing by, our coaches can teach the rookie and veteran alike.  Congrats to Handleyrs for a near 300 score and over $850 in winnings!!

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 8-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men, and goalies in order of my preference.

NHL FORWARDS

VGK 2 – Stone, Stastny, Pacioretty: Great matchup against ANA who bleeds goals and the biggest culprit should be back in net in John Gibson. I love Vegas tonight.

MTL 2 – Drouin, Domi, Shaw: These guys have scored five goals in the last three games and I expect the onslaught to continue. NYR has given up the most high danger chances per 60 minutes in their last ten games making this a potentially low owned smash spot for MTL.

SJ 1 – Meier, Couture, Pavelski: This line has actually been cold of late, but COL 1’s defense shouldn’t scare anyone. Colorado has been limiting goals lately but they have given up the most shots on goal over the last three weeks.

Other stacks

PIT 2 – Kessel, Malkin, Aston-Reese
BUF 1 – Reinhart, Eichel, Skinner
WPG 1 – Wheeler, Scheifele, Laine
NYR 1 – Vesey, Zibanejab, Kreider
COL 1 – Kerfoot, MacKinnon, Rantanen
CAR 1 – Niederreiter, Aho, Williams
STL 1 – Schwartz, O’Reilly, Tarasenko

Maybe prop bets are your thing, too?  We are quickly expanding coverage into the different realms of sportsbetting!

DFS Studs on DEFENSE

Burns: EK 65 is out! Burnzy is a lock and load. I will gladly eat that chalk in all formats

Dahlin: Not only is he on fire right now, but BUF is in a sneaky good spot. He is more for GPP’s if stacked with BUF 1 but he also makes a fine one off.

Trouba: WPG should score in bunches, and he has that blue line to himself until Byfuglien and Morrissey come back

Honorable Mentions: Josi, Carlson, Schmidt, Pulock, VALUE options: Petterson, DeAngelo, Graves, Jack Johnson, Skjei, Nemeth, Merrill

GOALIES Set to Bring Value

**All stats are over the last three weeks unless otherwise noted**

McElhinney: 4-1-0/1.80/0.942 This is a strange slate for goalies, I don’t feel any are “cash safe”. I like McElhinney’s chances for a win now that Allen is confirmed for STL. He has is work cut out for him against a hot offense, but his defense has been good and he’s been better. STL will test him with shot volume including a lot of high danger chances. I believe this is a low scoring game and this has the potential to break the slate. Hybrid/GPP

Greiss: 3-1-0/1.48/0.950 This is very much a GPP play but with the shot volume he should face from the Capitals and his GAA and save % he has the potential for a huge game. WSH can also hang 6 on him. It’s a risk, but one I’m willing to take, especially in MME contests. GPP

Varlamov: 5-2-4/2.53/0.928 He is another one that scares the hell out of me. He also has a massive ceiling. I love the idea of using him or a COL stack to hedge against the SJ skater and Jones chalk. There’s a reason Martin Jones is not in this write- up. GPP

Honorable Mentions: Fleury, Brossoit, Murray, Schneider (MME only, but he’s been hot and no one will be on him), Allen

GOAL PREDICTION: Mark Stone

Remember guys, always confirm the starters after Morning Skate.

I generally have this article out in the morning. If you guys have any questions reach out to me on Twitter or in our coaching forums. If not already a member, join the DFS Army today by using Promo Code PUCK to save 20% off your membership for life.
