DFS College Basketball Game Notes For Draftkings and Fanduel Early Slate 3/12/2019

Good morning to you beautiful people out there in DFS land!  You have managed to find yourself in a great spot here at DFS Army.  I look forward to providing you with analysis and picks throughout this 2018-2019 CBB season!  Remember, if I mention a player as a cash game play they most likely are OK for GPP play.  Let’s take a look at what games are on the slate for DraftKings and Fanduel.  The KenPom score projections are in parenthesis.

Clemson (71) vs NC State (70)
Miami (65) vs Virginia Tech (74)
Arizona (71) vs USC (70)
California (65) vs Colorado (77) – DK Only
Nebraska (70) vs Rutgers (66) – DK Only

College basketball hasn’t been back that long, and we have the coaches teaching!  Save yourself time and energy by letting us do the work.  And, if you want to see a real track record of success, stop by our Wall of Wins page to see what we’ve done in NFL, NBA, and MLB recently.  We aren’t one-trick-ponies at DFS Army, and we are dedicated to sharing our knowledge with you to help you improve your game.

CLEMSON vs NC STATE

This is an extremely important game for both teams.  A lot of bracketologists are claiming this is a play-in game for the NCAA tournament.  Clemson is going to need to attack the interior of NC State.  They can also attack and get to the FT line as NC State sends the opposition to the FT line more than any team in the ACC.  I like Reed a ton but he falls behind E.Thomas in this one.  I think this is a great spot for E.Thomas as long as he keeps his hands to himself on NC State guard drives.  Based on pricing, the only other Clemson player that I am considering for GPP purposes is Simms.

The guys we want to use for NC State are the ones that can knock down threes and make their FTs.  I really think this is a Markell Johnson spot with it being on the road, in an important spot.  The other guys are a little tougher to pick from.  I think my second favorite NC State player is Bryce.  He is capable of getting hot from three and is willing to drive it to the rim as well.  This very much could be an explosion spot for Beverly or even Daniels.  I would consider Funderburk a GPP, contrarian play in this spot.

Preferred Plays:  E.Thomas, M.Johnson, Bryce

MIAMI vs VIRGINIA TECH

Virginia Tech allows over 52% of the shots against them to come from three, while nearly 43% of the points they give up also come from three.  This info means I am absolutely going to be all about Vasiljevic in this spot.  He is taking double-digit shots and he is by far Miami’s best three-point shooter.  I very much believe that Lawrence is still a solid cash option with Lykes being an interesting GPP option even though he is struggling from the field.  Waardenburg is a punt that I am considering and could be used should the value be tough to come by on this slate.

Much like on the other side, Virginia Tech is in a great spot to knock down shots from the perimeter.  Alexander-Walker absolutely torched Miami in two match-ups this season as he went for 47 and 51 fantasy points.  I have a ton of interest in Blackshear but may move him to the GPP only category, depending on how the rest of the slate works out.  Hill is a cash play in this spot at just $5700 on DK and $6200 on FD.  You can definitely play either of Outlaw or Bede for GPP purposes.

Preferred Plays:  Vasiljevic, Lawrence, Alexander-Walker, Hill

ARIZONA vs USC

I am going to be completely honest, I want absolutely nobody from Arizona in this spot.  Just seems like the ideal team to bypass and look elsewhere.  Two guys will garner some ownership in GPPs and those guys are Coleman and Ira Lee.  Of those two, Coleman would be the one I could get behind.  I will point out that Randolph is $4200 on FD, which is just ridiculously low.

In the one match-up this season, both Boatwright and Rakocevic dominated the interior of Arizona.  Rakocevic went for over 50 DK points in that game.  I think that Mathews is a solid cash game play and should be able to get you 22+ in this spot while guys like Porter Jr and Weaver are GPP plays.  If we hear that Porter Jr is going to be out or limited, then I think Weaver becomes a cash game lock at his cheap price tag.

Preferred Plays: B.Randolph (FD), Boatwright, Rakocevic, Weaver

CALIFORNIA vs COLORADO – DK Only

This Cal team is difficult to figure out.  Their recent winning stretch means they definitely aren’t as bad as they showed earlier in the season but I assume they aren’t as good as they’ve shown recently either.  I think there are a couple of cash plays on Cal in this one as Austin and Bradley seem pretty safe for the mid-20s in terms of fantasy points.  Sueing is an interesting GPP option, even in a tough individual match-up.  Vanover is going to end up very popular and I am torn.  He is playing extremely well and with a ton of confidence but I have this sneaky desire to try and fade.  I will have to think on that one a bit more.

While Cal gives up a ton of threes and a solid % from three-point range, they are allowing Pac12 teams to shoot nearly 59% from two.  Bey is going to be one of my top plays on the slate.  The kid is coming into his own and offers a solid floor based on his peripherals.  I am intrigued by Battey moving into the starting lineup and think he is an interesting GPP play.  Guys like Wright IV and Schwartz make pretty solid cash game plays on this slate.  Gatling is a shot in the dark GPP play as he has been extremely up and down recently.  He is capable of getting blistering hot from three.

Preferred Plays:  Austin, Bey, Battey

NEBRASKA vs RUTGERS – DK Only

Nebraska is limping badly to the end of this season.  They basically just lost 3 guys in the last week-ish.  Palmer, Roby, and Watson are going to be relied on and should have extremely high usage rates.  Guys like Borchardt, Trueblood, and Thorbjarnarson are going to have to step up and they make solid value options.  They will carry some ownership on this slate and I think I may end up with 2 of those 3 in most of my lineups to make things fit.  I really like Palmer and Watson in this spot.  Watson has been on fire the last couple of games.  Rutgers gives up a very good % from deep but they do not allow teams to shoot a ton of them.

Nebraska allows teams to shoot over 37% from three in Big10 play but have been dominated by interiors since Copeland went down with an injury.  While I think Omoruyi and Baker are in play my main focus is on guys like Harper Jr, M.Johnson, and McConnell.  That trio has been playing really well lately and offer us some savings should we want to stack some studs from earlier games.  I could see Mathis being an interesting contrarian GPP play like the guys on his team, around his price, are going to be higher owned.

Preferred Plays:  Watson, Johnson, McConnell
