Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 1/19/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 20% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 9-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

MTL 1 – Danault, Gallagher, Drouin: They get a great match-up tonight against PHI 1 who isn’t scoring and have given up three goals in the last three and five goals in the last 10. Drouin’s zero kept me from having an even better night last night but I’m going right back to the well. I don’t think many people will be on this line but they are one of my favorites. Check out Beat The Bookie for some more goodies on this game.

NSH 1 – Sissons, Forsberg, Arvidsson: Sissons is going to be mega chalk tonight taking over the top line center role with Johansen suspended for the next two games. I think it is good chalk though. Arvidsson is one of my favorite plays on the slate as a stack or as a one off.

CBJ 1 – Dubois, Atkinson, Panarin – This line is rolling right now with 10 goals in the last 10 games and six over the last three. They get a dream match-up against Minnesota that has rapidly turned into a dumpster fire with their goaltending situation. If you are picking a cash one off, I would go Atkinson, but I can’t argue against any of them.

Honorable Mention: FLA 2, CGY 2 (cheaper, hotter and lower owned than CGY 1), VGK 1, NYR 1 (hedge the Tuukka chalk), CGY 1, TB 2 (great stack, I just don’t think I can get there in my ladder)

We crush all sports, pro or college

DEFENSE

Giordano: He has a great matchup in the battle of Alberta. He will not go over looked, everyone knows how hot he’s been. I like pairing him with pieces from CGY 2 to be off the chalk a bit.

Ekholm: Much higher floor and ceiling than Josi (who is also in a great spot), but for a lot cheaper. He will get a lot of ice time with NSH 1

Weber: He has a floor of about 8 FD points with his shots and blocks and he has put up over 20 in his last two. He also has a very under rated match up tonight.

Honorable Mentions: Suter (fantastic value), Burns, Klingberg, Heiskanen, Karlsson, Petry, Pietrangelo

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Rask: He will be the chalk and it won’t be close. He has a 6-0-1/1.70/0.942 stat line over the last three weeks and he has made sure Halak stays on the bench. This number 1 job is Tuukka’s barring an injury. The Rangers don’t shoot a ton, so there is a limited ceiling but the win should be safe. Lock him in cash games and be different elsewhere.

Price: 4-3-0/1.59/0.951 over the last three weeks and $400 cheaper than Rask on FD. Price has a higher ceiling than Rask and will carry much lower ownership. Philly is number 1 in SF over the last three weeks and #25 in goals scored. And on the flip side of that, MTL doesn’t give up many goals but they allow a ton of shots. This is a great GPP/hybrid spot for Price.

Rinne: This match-up is great for Pekka but he has been terrible lately (3-3-2/3.70/0.874). Florida shoots a ton but they haven’t been scoring. If Saros winds up starting, it’s a great spot because he has played a lot better than Rinne of late. Rinne is GPP only for me and given his massive money line total could carry some ownership.

Honorable Mention: Fleury, Binnington, Vasilevskiy,

GOAL PREDICTION: Brendan Gallagher
