Flynnie’s Forecheck – NHL DFS Advice for Fanduel and Draftkings

Flynnie’s Forecheck for 1/14/19

We’re back!! After a long off-season of watching the greatest love story since Romeo and Juliet – obviously, I’m talking about Alex Ovechkin’s love affair with the Stanley Cup – it’s time to play some hockey. For those of you that are new to the DFS Army, my name is Rob Flynn. I’m an NHL DFS writer and coach inside the DFS Army. We have the best articles, coaching and tools in the industry. But let me tell you, the real money is made in the Slack chat that only our  VIP’s have access to. That’s where we talk through a member’s lineup construction, thought process or just answer any DFS questions they may have. Every coach is very accessible and willing to share our own processes to help every member grow as a player.

I wrote an article describing some of my process and some tips to win. Check it out here. We also have a brand new Research station that is only available to VIP’s but here is the tutorial, to give you guys a taste of what’s coming this season.  When you sign up to become a member, use promo code PUCK to give yourself 10% off for the life of your membership.

NHL DFS is very similar to DFS MLB. The volatility can be maddening, the floor of every player is ZERO and you need stacking in all contests. In cash games you need at least two players that correlate on either the scoring line or power play, to hopefully grab the goal and an assist. In GPP’s you need to stack up the entire line and hope that line goes off for multiple goals.

Without any further ado let’s dig into today’s 6-game slate.

I am primarily a cash/hybrid player but even that requires some stacking. So, I list my favorite and then I take the pieces from those stacks that fit my lineup construction. Unlike last season, I will put my stacks, D-men and goalies in order of my preference.

FORWARDS

CHI PP1 – Kane, Debrincat, Gustafsson – Patrick Kane is my number 1 play on the slate in all formats, but I love this unit especially with DeBrincat now on the top line. CHI has the #2 PP unit over the last three weeks. NJ is the best unit on the PK over that time but I still think this spot is too good for those guys. I don’t like him as much as the other three, but a 4th guy for this stack is Toews. He has been playing much better of late. Also Dylan Strome is in a good spot.

NJ 2 – Zajac, Wood, Coleman – These guys are way too cheap and Wood and Coleman are two of the best value plays on the entire slate. I would only use Zajac in a stack with his wingers, he doesn’t have the floor or ceiling as a one-off.

BUF 1 – Eichel, Skinner, Reinhart – This is a great hammer stack. For some odd reason EDM is favored in this game, so these three will go overlooked. All three are cash viable but I think your cash builds need to start with Eichel. Mix and match these three with Risto or Dahlin for the PP 1 exposure.

Honorable Mention: STL 2, MIN PP2, TOR 2 or PP1, WSH 2, MTL 3, BOS 2

DEFENSE

Gustafsson – He is running the point on one the best PP units in the league and offers a solid ceiling to go with his floor of about 4 BSSOG a game. I love pairing him with Kane and DeBrincat on the top PP unit.

Parayko – Too cheap and offers a better floor than his teammate who will go higher owned: Pietrangelo. Both are good plays but as far as price and floor go, I prefer Parayko but I won’t talk you off either one

Nurse – The only Oiler I will play in cash games. He’s averaging about 4.5 BSSOG and 16 FD points over his last 5-10 games. He is remarkably consistent on a really bad team.

Honorable Mentions: Spurgeon, Barrie, Risto, Dahlin, Carlson, Krug, Rielly, Weber

Our long-time VIP Joker Wins took down a GPP and had two other top-10 finishes

GOALIES

Dubnyk – He is my number 1 by a mile tonight. He is 5-2-0/2.36/0.924 over the last three weeks. Minnesota has been playing well since the start of the new year with their only loss coming with Stalock in net. Philly has been shooting a ton but they haven’t been scoring. MIN plays solid defense too. I think he goes over looked with more expensive options on the slate and bigger favorites.

Rask – He is on an absolute heater right now (4-1-0/1.99/0.936) and with him you want to ride his hot streaks as much as you want to run away from his cold streaks. He is a pain in the butt in DFS but I love his spot tonight. He will be chalky but in cash I am okay with that chalk.

Blackwood – He is cheap and in a good spot tonight against CHI. I think this is better used in tournaments because of the scoring heater that CHI has been on. He has a 3-1-0/1.48/0.957 stat line over the last three weeks. I like a lot of CHI players as I mentioned above but he is a great hedge.

Honorable Mention: Andersen, Copley

GOAL PREDICTION: Miles  Wood
