DFS NBA Lineup Strategies – Blande’s 6th Man – Draftkings and Fanduel Advice Jan 16th

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande. I’m a contributor and coach over here at the DFS Army.

We get a nice 8-game slate, but it appears no good deed ever goes unpunished. Along with this lovely slate, we have been punished with the pricing of both Harden (14k/13k) and Anthony Davis (13.7k/11.8k), especially on FD. The slate also happens to be full of many other studs in excellent position. All this means is we need to get creative in finding our value plays if we want to roster as many studs as we can. Let’s dive into the 6th men to fill this gap.

Shoutout to Lins14 for this amazing takedown!

CORE PLAYS

PG – Spencer Dinwiddie (5400/5400): Spencer Dinwiddie is a core play today IF AND ONLY IF Shabazz Napier is out. Dinwiddie has seen his production crater over the last 7 games where Napier has received a significant share of minutes. Before Napier started receiving minute, Dinwiddie was playing really well, putting up impressive fantasy numbers. If Napier is out, Dinwiddie should get 30+ minutes against a Rockets team that isn’t stopping anyone from scoring right now.

SG – Terrence Ross (5300/4800): Ross is averaging 28.1 DKPs in 27.4 MPG over his last 5 games off the bench. Today he gets a matchup against a defensively challenged Pistons team; a team we love playing SGs against. Sign me up here. I love Ross on both sites, and he makes for a nice mid-tier option today.

SF – DeMarre Carroll (4800/5000): The Nets are getting healthier, but they are still missing some key pieces. This means Carroll will continue getting around 25 minutes off the bench. He does a little bit of everything, making him a nice DFS asset. At his price on FD, he is very much in play in cash or hybrid lineups due to his relatively solid floor.

PF – Montrezl Harrell (7900/7200): Harrel is a little too expensive for me, but there is no denying his upside here and his recent form. He is averaging 38.9 DKPs in 28.2 MPG over his last 5 games. In that span, he has put up 26, 49.25, 24.5, 40.25, and 44.5 DKPs. In a game in which the Jazz could be forced to play their big for a lot of minutes if Ingles is out, Harrell could find himself playing well upwards of 30 minutes today. He makes for an excellent all-format pay if you can find the salary to fit him in.

PGA Season is here and the wins have started coming in. Stop by in #pga-talk and give it a try!

GPP PLAYS

PG – Shelvin Mack (4400/3800): With Kyle Anderson still out, Shelvin Mack should continue to see more minutes off the bench for the Grizzlies. Factor in an excellent matchup at guard versus the Bucks and you have the makings for a fantastic night for Mack. Mack is also blowout proof and would thrive in a blowout scenario too. He is an excellent GPP play on both sites at his price.

SG – Grayson Allen (3500/3300): This is only a GPP play tonight IF Joe Ingles is out. With no Ingles, the Jazz will need to distribute those minutes to others. There are few available options here, with Grayson Allen being the obvious beneficiary. He makes for a nice drop-score candidate on FD if Ingles is out, and he is an MME candidate on DK.

SF – Nikola Mirotic (5800/5500): Mirotic has not had a good time on the court since returning from injury. That said, his shooting numbers have not been completely terrible when taken all together. In his three games back, he is shooting 9-22 from the field and 5-15 from beyond the arc. He just needs to have a complete game, something which he hasn’t been able to do yet as he is being eased back. Today, the Pelicans will need all bodies against the Warriors and Mirotic might be given some more room to operate in. He’ll be low owned here, making him a good GPP play at his price.

PF – JaMychal Green (4700/4900): Marc Gasol is questionable tonight. Should he miss this game, this opens up quite a bit of minutes. Joakim Noah will soak up some of them, but JaMychal Green will also be in line for some minutes increase as well. Given the matchup, the versatility of Green will clearly be needed here. At his price and given his upside, this will be an excellent boost, making him GPP viable on all sites. He will be viable in Hybrid lineups too and becomes a borderline core play if Gasol is out.

C – Joakim Noah (3900/3800): Speaking of boosts, if Gasol misses this game, Noah stands to eat up some of those minutes. This is basically why he was signed on to this team. Noah has been getting around 12 MPG over his last 4. In this scenario, it won’t be shocking for him to get around 20 minutes. This makes him a drop-score candidate on FD in GPPs. I’m not a fan on DK at his price.

Those are your Sixth men for today. Good luck out there today Army!
