Thursday Night College Football DFS!!! North Carolina @ Miami

This week we get a Thursday night showdown with North Carolina traveling to Miami.  North Carolina is coming off its first win of the season, a 38-35 comeback win over Pittsburgh.  Miami comes into the game 3-1 and looks to continue to build on a solid season.  Vegas is giving the edge to Miami who is an 18.5 point favorite and the opening total is 57.  Being nationally televised, I see Miami trying to step up and make a statement in this game.  If you are new to DFS College Football, be sure to check out our CFB Research Article!

Be sure to follow me on twitter (@zadelstein) and join me this season for college football at the DFS Army!

Congratulations to DFS Army member GoPack12 on his big GPP win last weekend!!!

North Carolina (+18.5)

North Carolina is in an interesting position coming into this game.  Before the season, 7 players got suspended for selling team issued Air Jordans, this is the game they come back.  For DFS relevance, the two that we care about are QB Chazz Surratt and WR Beau Corrales.  With Surratt coming back, it makes the situation very complicated for coach Larry Fedora.  QB Nathan Elliot had an abysmal start to the season, throwing for 356 yards, 1 touchdown and 4 interceptions through the first 2 games.  However, last week against Pitt, Elliot threw for 313 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Fedora has not been afraid to use 2 QBs in the past.  FanDuel also has decided that Elliot will not play, making him the min priced $6000.  If we get word that he will start, and possibly if he even splits snaps, I will be seriously tempted to plug him in.  Make sure you stay in our CFB coaches channels for up to the minute news.

Another player that has improved every game this season is RB Antonio Williams.  Williams ran for 114 yards and 2 touchdowns against Pittsburgh.  RB Michael Carter is the other back I am interested in for UNC.  Carter missed the first 2 games of the season due to injury but had 30 yards rushing and 4 receptions for 36 yards and a touchdown in his return.  That being said, Miami has a top 10 defense against the rush this year and this might not be the ideal situation for Williams.  The top pass catcher for the Tar Heels is WR Anthony Ratliff-Williams.  He has 27 targets on the year resulting in 11 receptions for 230 yards and a touchdown.  One thing to watch this week is the health of the top wideout.  Ratliff-Williams was injured in the 4th quarter and did not return last week.  WR Dazz Newsome had a coming out performance against Pittsburgh with 6 receptions for 110 yards.  Newsome only has 14 targets on the season but look for that to increase if Ratliff-Williams is out.  With Beau Corrales coming back, there could be fewer snaps to be seen for these receivers.  It has yet to be announced where Corrales will fit into this receiving corps so keep an eye out for any news regarding that.

DFS Army would like to congratulate member Jmstott87 on qualifying for the Fantasy College Football World Championship!

Miami

Miami could have a quarterback controversy on its hands, but I don’t think it will end up being one at all.  Last week, after 2 stalled drives by QB Malik Rosier, the Hurricanes brought in QB N’Kosi Perry who led the team to 2 touchdowns on his first 2 drives.  Perry went on to throw for 225 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 1 interception.  Rosier has 611 yards, 5 touchdowns and 2 interceptions on the year.  That being said, coach Mark Richt is keeping his cards close to his vest and I want to get news on this QB situation as well.

The leading back for Miami is RB Travis Homer.  Homer has 49 carries for 276 yards on the season with a touchdown.  RB Deejay Dallas is also an intriguing option, with 37 carries for 224 yards and a touchdown.  North Carolina is ranked 92nd in rushing defense giving up over 200 yards a game and this is one way I think they can be attacked.  The leading receiver for Miami is Jeff Thomas.  Thomas has 14 receptions on 23 targets for 315 yards and 2 touchdowns.  Thomas is a huge homerun threat.  One receiver I really am looking at for this game is WR Lawrence Cager.  Cager generally only gets 2 to 3 targets a game, but he is the main red zone target for the Hurricanes.  He has a red zone target in every game including touchdown receptions from both QBs.  The other top receiver for the Hurricanes is tight end WR Brevin Jordan who has 12 receptions on 19 targets for 119 yards and 3 touchdowns.  North Carolina has a better than average passing defense ranked 37th through the first third of the season, giving up less than 200 yards a game through the air.

This is a game where news will come out that will surely affect lineups.  With QB battles in full swing and injury news waiting to break, be sure to be around our coaching channels this week so that you can get all the latest news!
