Schnarr’s Super Picks PGA DFS Preview – BMW Championship

Every week of the year the PGA Tour plays on a new course. There are some examples in other DFS Sports of environments impacting performance, such as Coors Field in Baseball; Golf, however, offers an entirely unique environment each and every week. This article will break down the week’s PGA course and attempt to find what skill sets are needed for success. This article will then combine the course breakdown with the DFS Army Domination Station and give a few players to target in both Cash Game and GPP formats. For more updates throughout the week follow me on twitter @_bschnarr

Dell Technologies Championship Review

Rory Mcilroy – T12 – 75.5 DK Points

An up and down Sunday saw Rory move back four spots on the leaderboard that he was looking primed to finish at the top off. Rory ultimately could not get it going on Sunday and ended at 75.5 DK Points, in this top group of salaries everyone finished between 75.5 DK points and 80.5 DK points outside of Jason Day – so as long as you avoided him up top you should have been looking fine.

Adam Scott – T49 – 70 DK Points

Scott lit up the course on Friday and sees a fantasy score much better than his finishing position.

 Jon Rahm – T43 – 68.5 DK Points

I liked Rahm as potentially low owned pivot off, turns out everyone else did too. As the week went on Rahm was being touted all over the place and no longer made a solid pivot play.

Hideki Matsuyama – T4 – 93 DK Points

Finishing 4th and 2nd overall in points was Hideki for the week who is looking to have finally found his game again. As I mentioned in my article my only concern regarding Hideki for the week was that the public had caught on and we would see signifigant ownership. Luckily that was not the case as Hideki garnered quite a bit of ownership (17% average in GPPS) but in no way was one of the chalkiest players on the slate.

Bryson Dechambeau – WIN – 98 DK Points

Back-to-back wins for Bryson as he looked incredible on the weekend. Watching him play alongside Tiger was a treat as Dechambeau vaulted all the way up the leaderboard into contention on Sunday and then was able to take down the tournament with solid play. The best part, only 11% of people played him in GPP’s.

Course Preview

The second last event of the PGA Tour season is upon us as the tour heads to Aronimink Golf Club for the BMW Championship. The 7,237 yard par 70 has last been seen on the PGA Tour in 2011 for the AT&T National, an event won by Nick Watney at -13. I’d be lying to you if I said I knew much about the course and what to expect as the course is not on regular rotation for the tour. As the week goes on and more information comes out there will be plenty for DFSArmy members about what to expect. Currently, all members have access to our statistical data to see what stats led to success in 2010-2011, as well as further insight from coaches/members as to what they think will be important for the week.

While we may not have the best grasp for the course itself there are many unique aspects to this week in regards to the field playing. The BMW Championship features the top 70 of the FexEx cup championship in a no cut event. As the event changes from cut to no-cut, there are definite changes to strategy that should be undertaken.

Another important, unique element to this week tat were not used to seeing; only the top 30 of the FedEx Cup move on to East Lake. This creates a unique situation for those on the bubble or outside of the top thirty that can impact a player’s mindset. Anyone outside of the top thirty has nothing to really lose and can surely take more chances in an effort to vault up the leaderboard and secure a spot in next weeks championship.

Interesting plays

Justin Rose – DK: $11200 FD: $11600

While im sure his fantasy owners noticed, it seemed to me like Rose had one of the sneakiest second place finishes of the year. After a rare missed cut for Rose at the Northern Trust he came right back with a tremendous second place finish at Dell. Rose was chalky last week at $9300, but with the nearly 2k price increase it will be interesting to see how ownership plays out.

Bryson DeChambeau – DK: $10000 FD: $12000

I guess the price increase makes sense when you take into account Bryson has now won back-to-back events. With the wins and the inevitable news of making the Ryder Cup you can expect Bryson to be riding high. I hate the narrative about things like that getting into guys heads and them not playing as good as a result, especially in this instance. I like Bryson once again and I think the price increase will mean you wont see him at 30% ownership.

Hideki Matsuyama – DK: $9700 FD: $11000

I think this is the week we finally see Matsuyama return to being chalk. Hideki is trending in the right direction at the right time and I like him regardless of ownership but will definitely be checking into @dfsupnorths Chalk Donkey article to get a better grasp of what we should expect.

Rickie Fowler – DK: $9000 FD: $10200

If Rickie is fully healthy then I love him at this price tag. Today he has said he is close to 100% and I will be watching his comments tomorrow as I think he is a bargain at this price in a no-cut event.

Francesco Molinari – DK: $8800 FD: $10800

After taking last week off Molinari comes back at a course that I think sets up tremendously for his game. The buzz from the Major championship has worn off and I would expect we can get Molinari at a respectable ownership level.

Rafa Cabrera-Bello – DK: $8300 FD: $10200

With 4 top 20s in his last five appearances Cabrerra-Bello is offering consistency at an affordable price.

Tyrell Hatton – DK: $7700 FD:$10300

Severely underpriced on DraftKings, Hatton has looked great the last three weeks and was all over the highlight reel with some ridiculous shots on the weekend. Although he is a great price I think there are other players around him who are great plays for the week and if the expected ownership is up there I have no problem fading Hatton for some of the others in his price range.

As always, these are initial thoughts and not necessarily the plays I will be making.  As the week goes on I will update my thoughts in our member SlackChat as well as discussing multiple other players and my thoughts for both Cash and GPP’s.
