Remember, this article is designed to get you pointed in the right direction.  It’s not a slate write-up and it’s not a player picks piece.  I would rather get you started, then have you interact with us in our VIP slack forums as we banter picks and strategies back and forth.  Learning MLB the right way is the fastest way to grow your skill level.

DFS Army is about teaching first.  This is a video breakdown covering the important parts of today’s slates….you might even get some tips as I walk through my process.  Even I don’t know what I’m going to say…

Main Slate Pitching Roundup

DET/CWS – Questionable rain early……watch weather reports!

Luis Severino – Great spot tonight, -160 Vegas odds favoring, 503 KScore and solid recency over last 5 games.

Tyler Glasnow – My only other realistic option off Seve.  MUUUUUUCH cheaper, too.  Hard for me not to just take the risk and roster him everywhere on Fanduel at $6700.  477 Kscore, -130 out of Vegas, and last 5 outings have allowed him to go deeper into games and show scores of 40, 30, 20, 30, 36…..not bad for under $7000.

Ryu – I suppose I could toss him in, and he’s not terrible at all.  A little more prone to implosions, but so is Severino.  488 Kscore, and a rising trend at a -190 from Vegas gives solid support to the cause.  I just happen to love Glasnow and the savings tonight.

For more details and thoughts, watch the above video!  Thank you.

Star Ratings and Softer Pitching

We often categorize players and teams by specific parameters, but it does get hard to see everyone from a helicopter view when starting at so many numbers for individuals.  I’ve found the best way is to write things down.  From there, I can see the players/teams I’m interested in side-by-side and get a better look at who really stands out as the best.  I target my soft pitching like this, too.

Low DFSA Graded pitchers give me good spots for batters on these teams – LAA, MIN, DET, CHC, SEA, STL, TBR, PIT, COL

High implied runs from Vegas give me offenses to target – COL, HOU, SEA, LAA, PIT, TEX, SFG

Pitchers that struggle with both lefties and righties can be easy targets for opposing bats like – SEA, TBT, ROT, NYY, MIA, CWS, LAA, PIT, STL

We look for teams on all the lists as focal points, then look for the hot hitters inside those offenses.  If we give “one star” to a team on a list, we can earn up to three stars when an offense is on all three lists.

3 Stars –

LAA – Ohtani, Calhoun

SEA – Cano, Healy, Haniger

PIT – Frazier, Polanco

2 Stars –

STL – Munoz, Molina, DeJong, maybe Ozuna

TBR – Lowe, Cron, Pham, Choi, Wendle, Kiermeier

COL – Holliday, Story, Blackmon, Iannetta, Dahl

Anything else is a gpp offense according to me.  But, MLB is so volatile it’s hard to bet against offenses like BOS even in tougher matchups.  I just lean towards keeping them in my gpps over safer contests like cash games and leagues.

Final MLB DFS Thoughts

For MLB cash games, keep the stacking to a minimum.  You can’t afford to grab stack Rockies in Coors and have them fall flat, which they occasionally do.  ISO is a great stat to look at with wOBA for hitter-friendly parks.  Remember to head over to DFSARMY.com, your one-stop-shop for stats, player recommendations, coaching, winning lineups discussion, and everything DFS related.  Use code CHOP to trigger a 10% discount every month as long as you remain a member regardless of any future price increases.  You are grandfathered in at your rate permanently!!
