nillyJay’s MLB Cash Academy for Fanduel and Draftkings DFS 8/13/18

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the MLB cash academy at the DFS Army! I go by nillyJay in the DFS Army where I coach and contribute content for MLB, NASCAR, and all things cash games related (such as proper bankroll management and cash ladders).  You can find me on Twitter or in our Slack channels @nillyJay.

The free content is great, but our members get the best stuff.  Congrats mblack412!

The basics

Please refer to the original article here if you’re unfamiliar with any of the stats or terminology used in the notes below.  NEWIf you want to read more about my carnage rating system, you can do so here.

Yesterday’s results

Chris Sale: 57 FD | 38.65 DK
Marcus Stroman: 18 FD | 9.65 DK
Alex Gordon: 6.2 FD | 4 DK
Greg Allen: 15.2 FD | 12 DK
Brock Holt: 6.2 FD | 5 DK
Marwin Gonzalez: 6 FD | 6 DK

I hope you guys watched Chris Sale in action yesterday.  What a performance!  If only they let him go another inning or two…or three.

Cash players – 8/13/2018

Clayton Kershaw (LAD P: $10,800 FD | $10,000 DK) – One of today’s top arm comes at a bit of a discount compared to how much the aces typically cost, so that gives all the more reason to take him today.  To go with that, he has a 3.73 carnage rating along with a combined wOBA of .291 and has had plenty of success against the current San Francisco roster over the years.  Vegas likes him too, as expected, with a –197 moneyline and 2.89 implied runs.  There are some other interesting options for tournaments today, but for our cash games, we can rely on Kershaw to get the job done.  Severino is a solid option as well, but keep an eye on the weather if you go that route.

Marcell Ozuna (STL OF: $3,400 FD | $3,900 DK) – Ozuna just keeps on producing and the sites keep forgetting to bump up his salary.  Good for us!  He’s hitting .418 wOBA and .250 ISO against lefties, has had 11 hits in his last 7 games, and is only striking out 7.55% of the time.  Milone is allowing .424 wOBA and .283 ISO against righties and I don’t think Ozuna will have much trouble returning plenty of value for us today.

Andrelton Simmons (LAA SS: $3,200 FD | $4,100 DK) – Similar to Ozuna, Simmons has been producing plenty and is still at a reasonable price, and finds himself in a great matchup today.  He’s hitting .584 wOBA and .375 ISO off lefties, while Richard is allowing .406 wOBA and .224 ISO to righties.  The strikeout rates here are very low (7.32% and 10.80% respectively), and Richard’s 7.37 carnage rating is a great place to attack.

Like what you see here, but wish you could quickly find more batters in good spots like these ones are? I upload a list of every batter that meets the requirements I’m looking for, every single day, and today’s list has 27 batters on it.  Everybody gets a few here, but our VIPs get the rest!  That list also has a breakdown of the Tiers and QuickPick slates.

Kike Hernandez (LAD OF: $2,500 FD | $2,600 DK) – While he’s not quite running as hot I would like for cash games (though still decent), he’s cheap and has a very big plus; his BvP against Bumgarner is terrific; he’s 15 for 33 (with 9 extra-base hits and 4 home runs) against him.  Sometimes that’s all we need from a $2,500 batter, and it’s good enough for me today!

Eduardo Escobar (ARI 3B/SS: $3,900 FD | $4,600 DK) – Escobar has been very hot with his new team, having at least one hit in all but 5 games since early July, and he gets everybody’s favorite target today.  Escobar is posting .414 wOBA and .300 ISO against righties, while Colon is allowing .409 wOBA and .259 ISO to the left side of the plate.  Add in Arizona’s 5.42 implied runs and Colon’s 6.91 carnage rating, and we have everything we’re looking for.  You can pair him with almost anybody else here, though GoldschmidtPeralta, and Ahmed stand out.

Monday bonus!!

You guys know I like giving out some extra goodies!  FanDuel recently added the tiers to their QuickPick CSV file which prompted me to build a model for it.  I finished it up this morning, and even though they dropped the ball on having any cash games today, I wanted to share some of it here anyway:

Whew, that’s a lot of batters!  They definitely give us a lot of options in the last two tiers, and that’s exactly why I wanted to make something like this.  The idea is to be able to quickly check things out (just like what I did with the DraftKings Tiers version), to figure out who we should target for cash games or for tournaments.  DFS Army VIP members can check out the rest of today’s sheet (along with the DraftKings Tiers and classic batter lists for both sites) right here!

And that’s going to do it for today.  As always, be sure to check out the rest of our MLB content today, and be sure to catch up on some of our NFL articles as well.  Also, be sure to check out our soccer coverage when it comes out for the showdown tomorrow.

Tired of missing out on everything we offer our members?  Now is as good of a time to join as any, and we even have a free trial offer if you want to test the waters first.  Just be sure to use promo code NILLY to get that 10% discount for the life of your active membership.  Until then, good luck today, and I’ll see you all again on Friday!
