Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown 8/2/2018

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m here over at the DFS Army with coverage of WNBA. We have a two-game slate with potential injury  updates to shake things up. Most significantly, Skylar Diggins-Smith has been ruled out today with a facial injury. That said, the first game tonight is expected to carry the majority of the DFS action. Buckle up!

  • Dallas Wings @ Indiana Fever

The Wings will be without Skylar Diggins-Smith today. This significantly increases the value of Liz Cambage and I expect her ownership to be through the roof. Cambage is as close to a lock as you can get. However, I can understand the urge to fade Cambage in GPPs, as she has struggled against the Fever defense in the previous two meetings so far this season. Fade her at your own peril though. Glory Johnson makes for an excellent play here, facing a Fever team that gets burnt by power forwards. As long as Victoria Vivians is playing, you can fade Kayla Thornton. Both Allisha Gray and Kaela Davis are in play here, with Davis picking up the start in place of SDS. The matchup is a good one for both, and they would both garner a high amount of ownership.

Candice Dupree will be relied on heavily to lift this team today, especially with Natalie Achonwa occupied with Cambage. Dupree is playable in all formats, while Achonwa is an easy fade, except for the occasional play in a GPP. Victoria Vivians is questionable with an ankle injury. She is a fade if she plays, and if she doesn’t, that opens the door for Tiffany Mitchell to step in an excel. Kelsey Mitchell is the best guard play for the Fever, with the highest DK value projection on our Research Station. Cappie Pondexter and Erica Wheeler are playable in GPPs.

  • Minnesota Lynx @ Los Angeles Sparks

The rivalry continues, and everyone would be back for this one. There are few picks that pop out from this game, and I expect it to be lower owned than the Dallas/Indiana game. That said, there are some gems in here.

Sylvia Fowles is the top play in this game, especially going against Candace Parker. Fowles is playable in all formats and will be battling with Cambage for the top spot tonight. Rebekkah Brunson makes for a great play in all formats as well, especially on Fanduel where she is relatively cheap. Her matchup with Nneka Ogwumike is a tough one, but she is capable of handling it. Maya Moore will get the Alana Beard treatment for a good chunk of the game, I want no part of this matchup. This leaves us with Seimone Augustus as the only other player of any interest on the Lynx. She is usable as a cash punt.

For the Sparks, the running joke of picking between Parker and Ogwumike continues. Parker is the better play today, although she is a little pricey. Ogwumike has the tougher matchup against a well-rested Brunson. I want no part of the Alana Beard here as she will spend all her energy containing Moore. Essence Carson and Odyssey Sims will each get around 20-25 minutes, but their upside is limited here. The real interest lies in Chelsea Gray, who will play literally the entire game and has a high floor and ceiling, making her an excellent play in all formats.
