Aces in the Hole: DFS Tennis Picks for August 8

Another day with a late arriving player pool but that won’t stop this article. It’s worth noting that today’s slate is incredible tight in the mid-range and that’s where I’m going to focus. Pretty much all of the studs are in play if you can fit them, though I will mention one specifically below.

For Tennis, I use an odds-based approach, mixing in current form and playing surface history. This article will be free for now and probably move to VIP only when the U.S. Open starts. That’s no reason to wait to become a VIP member with baseball in full swing and football around the corner…not to mention that signing up now locks in your price forever (take the hint). Become a VIP and use code SNIPER to get a 10% discount automatically applied to your account each and every month.

One last thing – if you don’t already, please give me a follow on Twitter and subscribe to my YouTube channel at the links below. OK, enough of the intro, let’s get to it.

MY TENNIS ACES FOR AUGUST 8

Slate Locks at 11:00 am ET

Juan Martin Del Potro ($10,000) – Okay, back to the well targeting against Robin Haase. I understand if you read this article yesterday and feel uncomfortable about it but to put it bluntly Kei Nishikori either completely choked or got a nice payday. Anyway, Del Potro offers the same slight odds value at the top of the pool that Nishikorie did yesterday. Del Potro is 13-3 in his last 16 with losses to the red-hot Fabio Fognini and a pair to Rafael Nadal. Del Potro is also 4-0 all-time against Haase….so I’m going to buckle up and hope the Dutchmen doesn’t burn me again.

Elise Mertens ($7,700) – I probably should have led this article with Mertens but I needed to get the Nishikori stuff off my chest. That being said – holy odds value, Batman! Mertens has the seventh highest win odds (-279) on the slate but is priced in the middle of the pool. This is chalk that I’m 100% going to eat today. Mertens is the better player, in the better form, not to mention that Shuai Zhang had some trouble with her first serve yesterday. It’s up to you whether you go under or over-weight on Mertens but definitely don’t forget her in your exposures and I’d be hard pressed to build a cash lineup without her.

Anastasija Sevastova ($9,200) – Another familiar face to this article but someone who I think goes overlooked today in her price range. Sevastova is facing Monica Puig who is a “Lucky Loser” – which means she lost in the qualifying bracket but is replacing someone in the main draw because of an injury. The only disadvantage for Sevastova is that she had to play yesterday while Puig is replacing a player that had a bye. But Puig has lost four of her last five and dropped the only head-to-head with Sevastova. On the other hand, Sevastova has won eight straight and dismantled Krunic yesterday, 6-1, 6-0. I’m hoping all the big name studs at the top of the pool lead to Sevastova being under owned.

Marton Fucsovics ($7,200) – Now for the hardest part of any slate, finding the cheap player to take you to the top of the leaderboard. There a few options (come find me in Slack Chat for some more names) but I’ll lead with Fucsovics. The hard court is a good surface for Fucsovics and the 51st ranked player in the world is taking on big name Stan Wawrinka. Wawrinka has been in terrible form before finishing a 1-6, 7-5, 7-5 comeback yesterday against Nick Kyrgios. Kyrigos though has been battling injuries and I wonder if that played into the end of the match. Worst case scenario I think Fucksovics still keeps this one close and with no clear odds value here Fucsovics is one of a few names I’ll be shuffling in today.

That’s it guys and girls! Please jump into Slack and find me to talk about the slate and definitely let me know how we can improve our Tennis coverage at DFS Army. If you’re not a VIP member with access to Slack Chat, join today and use code SNIPER for 10% off! It’s a new DFS game and I look forward to watching it evolve with the rest of you.
