Aces in the Hole: DFS Tennis Picks for August 20

Don’t say I didn’t warn you because this is the last week this article will be free, so make sure you become a VIP before the US Open starts. Not the biggest event on tap as it’s the final tune-up before the NYC major but there are still some interesting matchups and value out there in the DK player pool. The Aces are a combined 22-10 since this article started and I’m pretty proud of that as we aren’t exclusively taking players who are huge favorites. Let’s see what diamonds in the rough we can find today.

For Tennis, I use an odds-based approach, mixing in current form and playing surface history. This article will be free for now and probably move to VIP only when the U.S. Open starts. That’s no reason to wait to become a VIP member with baseball in full swing and football around the corner…not to mention that signing up now locks in your price for Become a VIP and use code SNIPER to get a 10% discount automatically applied to your account each and every month.

One last thing – if you don’t already, please give me a follow on Twitter and subscribe to my YouTube channel at the links below. OK, enough of the intro, let’s get to it.

MY TENNIS ACES FOR AUGUST 20

Slate Locks at 10:00 am ET

Julien Benneateau ($6,200) – That’s right, we are starting this week off with a stone cold punt in Benneateau. Before I pat myself on the back too much, the Frenchmen should be pretty chalky come Monday morning. Benneateau is just a +145 dog at the bottom of the player pool and he’s taking on Matteo Berrettini who is a much better clay court player and has not yet played a hard court match in preparation for the Open. While the same is true of Benneateau, he has fared better on hard-courts in his career, including a round of 16 appearance at the Australian Open this year. Obviously not a lock but there’s value here and the price tag really gives you lots of options when building the rest of your lineup.

Johanna Konta ($9,600) – Before we even talk about Konta we have to talk about her opponent Laura Siegemund. Siegemund hasn’t  played on a hard court since April of 2017 and has lost 12 of her last 13 matches on the surface. While stumbling early in her last tournament Konta has still had a relatively successful hard-court campaign with wins over Serena Williams and Victoria Azarenka this month. She’s all the way up to a -500 favorite and is my favorite pay up option on the board.

Danielle Rose Collins ($6,800) – That’s right, two punts in one day. But I love odds value so Collins’ +100 odds to win at $6,800 has to be mentioned. The game logs are deceiving here as Yastremska has been playing mostly ITF events (think AAA) but is having some success there. However, to qualify for this main draw she’s played three matches in the last three days before taking on the 36th ranked Collins. This salary saver had an early exit last week in an awful performance following a decent tournament run. That last match makes me a little hesitant but she should be well rested for her final outing before the US Open and is clearly the better player on paper…not to mention she’s an underdog.

Leonardo Mayer ($8,600) – Mayer offers some savings off the very top of the player pool but still has a healthy -300 money line in his favor. He also played well in the Masters event last week picking up two wins before bowing out to Roger Federer, 1-6, 6-7. Meanwhile Yuichi Sugita has lost five straight overall and seven straight on hard courts. Mayer also owns both head to head meetings, including a victory at the 2017 US Open. The mid-range is pretty uncomfortable on Monday but Mayer is one of my most confident plays in the range.

That’s it guys and girls! Please jump into Slack and find me to talk about the slate and definitely let me know how we can improve our Tennis coverage at DFS Army. If you’re not a VIP member with access to Slack Chat, join today and use code SNIPER for 10% off! It’s a new DFS game and I look forward to watching it evolve with the rest of you.
