nillyJay’s MLB Cash Academy for Fanduel and Draftkings DFS 7/6/2018

Hello everyone, and welcome back to the MLB cash academy at the DFS ArmyI hope you all had a great 4th of July and are ready to get back to the cash game grind with me.  I go by nillyJay in the DFS Army where I coach and contribute content for MLB, NASCAR, and all things cash games related (such as proper bankroll management and cash ladders).  You can find me on Twitter or in our Slack channels @nillyJay.

The purpose of these articles is to show an easy way to identify players to use MLB cash game lineups.  While I do provide some player names, the idea is to show what I’m looking for so that you can use some of that same thinking to help aid your research for building lineups.

The basics

Please refer to the original article here if you’re unfamiliar with any of the stats or terminology used in the notes below.

Cash players – 7/6/2018

Chris Sale (BOS P$12,500 FD | $14,000 DK) – Gee, here we go again, picking on my Royals!  Truth be told, Sale is in another great spot with a solid floor, and will likely carry a lot of ownership in cash today.  His -345 moneyline along with the Royals’ 2.6 implied run total are both very impressive, as are his slate-best 1.13 carnage rating and .168 combined wOBA.  Feel free to go somewhere else in tournaments (as the Royals have been known to limit his upside), but for cash games, this is a pretty easy play.

Freddy Peralta (MIL P$8,400 FD | $10,200 DK) – If you don’t want to pay all the way up for Sale, then Peralta is another great choice.  He doesn’t have quite as much Vegas love (-119 moneyline and 3.64 implied runs), but he looks great everywhere else.  He sports the third-best carnage rating today at 2.5, has a combined .165 wOBA (slightly better than Sale’s!), and has a great BvP advantage as nobody on the Braves has ever faced him.

Miguel Andujar (NYY 3B$3,300 FD | $3,900 DK) – The Yankees have one of the highest implied totals on the board today at 5.21, but unfortunately they can be a bit expensive.  Enter Andujar, who not only offers exposure to this offense at a reasonable price, he’s also in a fantastic matchup today.  His recent .389 wOBA against righties looks great against Gaviglio’s .429 wOBA and .294 ISO against righties, and his super-low 4.76% strikeout rate over the last 10 days gives us a solid floor.  He’s had 4 hits in his last 3 games, and this looks to be a great spot for him to continue his new streak.

Trea Turner (WAS SS: $3,700 FD | $4,700 DK) – Trea had an unreal game yesterday and basically sealed our Pick’Em cash games by himself (see below).  He’s sure to be chalky today, so it wouldn’t be a bad idea to try and get him in your cash game lineups.  Why is that?  Well, we don’t purposefully fade good chalk in cash, and Trea finds himself in an even better matchup today than he was in yesterday.  His .432 wOBA and .222 ISO against righties continues to climb, and Straily’s .415 wOBA .342 ISO is a great place to attack.  Oh, don’t forget about Rendon either, as he’s in just as good of a spot as Trea is in.  He let me down yesterday too, but I’ll go right back to him today.

Jorge Polanco (MIN SS$2,700 FD | $3,500 DK) – If for some reason you don’t want to pay up for Trea, this is a good alternative (or you can take him in the utility spot on FD).  He’s hit for .513 wOBA and .222 ISO against righties since he’s been back this year, and Bundy has given up .413 wOBA .250 ISO to the left side of the plate over his last 5 starts.  Polanco also carries a very nice 12.5% strikeout rate and has 4 hits (2 XBH) in his last three games.  He looks to be a great value option today, and I suspect he’ll keep his small hitting streak alive.

Elias Diaz (PIT C$2,700 FD | $3,300 DK) – We often just punt here in cash, but Diaz is worth paying up just a little for.  He’s been hammering righties lately to the tune of .544 wOBA and .500 ISO, while Pivetta has been giving up .361 wOBA and .333 ISO to righties.  Diaz has a fairly decent 18.18% strikeout rate over the last week and had plenty of success the last time these two faced.  It’s a small sample size, but he’s 2 for 2 with a home run against Pivetta, which at least tells me he can keep up with him.  Finally, Diaz has fantasy production in 9 straight games, and I think he makes that 10 today.

Yasmani Grandal (LAD C$3,200 FD | $3,900 DK) – If you have some spare salary, Grandal makes an excellent place to spent a little.  He’s had two hits in each of his last three games (with double-digit fantasy scoring), and carries a massive .667 wOBA and .583 ISO into tonight’s matchup against Pena, who is giving up .359 wOBA to the left side of the plate.  Grandal’s super-low 5.56% strikeout rate over the last week is terrific as well and adds to his already solid floor.

Freebie Friday!!

It’s Friday, so you know what that means…freebies at the DFS Army!  Be sure to check out the research station while it’s available today as well as our other MLB articles.  As for me, I’m going to include one of the DraftKings Pick’Em tiers here.  I made a model that breaks down each tier so we can quickly identify who we want to use in both cash and tournaments, and it’s been on fire all season long.  The other tiers will be in my Slack channel (#nillys-garage-nas-mlb), but I can share one of them here:

Click me, I expand!

Are you playing Pick’Em tonight, but aren’t really sure who to use in T1?  Well, you can use this to help guide you.  If you guys aren’t playing Pick’Em with us in cash, you’re really missing out!  Here’s my score from last night and my results over the last week:

Click me, I expand too!

The kicker here is that I’m not doing anything special, nor are any of the other DFS Army members who are playing these games with me.  My batter model does all the heavy lifting, I put the results in my Slack channel, and we use that chart to quickly find the guy in the best matchup in each tier.  What am I looking for?  Exactly the same stats as I outline in these articles.

That’s going to do it for today.  Be sure to check out all of the free stuff we have available today and remember that not only do we offer lots of MLB content, but we do every major sport as well; PGA, WNBA, MMA, and soccer, and more.  We do it all, and we do it for one low price – just be sure to use promo code NILLY for that 10% discount.  Good luck today!
