Cash players – 7/15/2018
Justin Verlander (HOU P: $11,700 FD | $13,500 DK) – Finally, some good pitching we can trust again! Verlander leads the way today with his massive -366 moneyline and 2.36 implied runs, as well as his slate-best 1.74 carnage rating. His combined wOBA is pretty good at .298, and his KSCORE is the second highest at 579. He faces his old team today, and while he pitched for them for plenty of years, they have very little experience actually hitting against him (with the exception of Martinez, who is 0 for his last 15). This is about as solid of a cash pitcher as we have today,
Patrick Corbin (ARI P: $8,700 FD | $10,900 DK) – My second favorite cash pitcher would be Corbin today, who sports a low 2.81 carnage rating, .246 combined wOBA, and the same KSOCRE as Verlander (579). Corbin has no fewer than 5 strikeouts in every game this season, and nobody on the Braves has been able to figure out how to hit him (for example, Freeman is 1 for 13 with 6 strikeouts). So long as the weather holds out, Corbin is another solid cash option today.
Alex Bregman (HOU 3B: $4,400 FD | $5,500 DK) – Not only is Bregman one of the hottest hitters in the game right now (a ridiculous .996 wOBA and 1.333 ISO against lefties over his last 7 games), he’s not striking out (6.67%) and faces the soft-throwing Liriano today (.433 wOBA / .221 ISO to righties). Bregman is also 5 for 6 in this matchup, and I see no reason why he doesn’t add another hit or two along the way to another double-digit fantasy performance today.
Gregory Polanco (PIT OF: $3,500 FD | $4,300 DK) – Having a home run in three straight games is a good sign somebody is running hot, especially when they’re posting a .506 wOBA and .632 ISO in the matchup they’re going up against. On the other side is Chacin, who is giving up .429 wOBA and .189 ISO to lefties. Even if he doesn’t hit his fourth consecutive home run today, I still like him for solid production for our cash games.
Travis Shaw (MIL 3B: $3,400 FD | $4,200 DK) – Shaw has posted fantasy scoring in 15 of his last 16 games, and finds himself in a good spot to add to that streak. Not only is his strikeout rate really low (5.88%), he’s hitting righties very well at .352 wOBA and .222 ISO. Musgrove has been good, but is a little vulnerable to lefties, giving up .469 wOBA and .194 ISO to them.
Amed Rosario (NYM SS: $2,400 FD | $3,300 DK) – If you’re looking for a solid value option (aren’t we all?), Rosario makes a good candidate. His low strikeout rate of 12.5% and high .515 wOBA / .409 ISO against righties matches up very well against Hellickson’s .404 xwOBA and .172 ISO righties. He’s also had multi-hit games in 3 of his last 4 starts, which makes me feel even better about this value bat today.
