Cash players – 7/14/2018
Today’s article will focus on the 7:15 PM main slate. The Pick’Em sheet for the early slate is already up in my Slack channel for DFSA members.
Kyle Hendricks (CHC P: $7,500 FD | $8,900 DK) This is a bit of a scary slate for pitching, but Hendricks at least has some qualities we’re looking for. Vegas likes him the best today (-186 moneyline, 3.37 implied runs) and the Padres don’t have a ton of success against him (Galvis has the best BvP but he’s been fairly inconsistent). His carnage rating is decent (4.35) and his KSCORE is manageable (453), which is more that can be said about most of the other pitchers on this slate.
Jurickson Profar (TEX 3B/SS: $3,100 FD | $4,700 DK) – There are several Rangers in good spots today, but if I can only take one, it would be Profar for his consistency and switch-hitting ability. He’s hitting .362 wOBA and .400 ISO against righties while only striking out 5.88% of the time. Ramirez is giving up plenty to the left side of the plate (.418 wOBA, .190 ISO) and his 21.8% strikeout rate is fairly average. If you want to run a two-man cash stack, look at Choo, Odor, or Guzman to go with him. If you’re feeling brave, Gallo is an option too.
Carlos Gonzalez (COL OF: $3,400 FD | $4,300 DK) Coors? Check. Good BvP? (6 for 18 with 5 XBH and 3 home runs). Check. Running well recently? (.469 wOBA, .462 ISO against lefties, 8.7% strikeout rate). Check. Facing soft pitching? (.409 wOBA, .269 ISO against lefties, 6.38 carnage rating, 16.5% strikeout rate). Check. Finding batters for cash games is really that easy!
Gregory Bird (NYY 1B: $3,200 FD | $3,800 DK) – Bird has proven himself to be very consistent lately, having fantasy production in all but one game so far this month. He brings a 7-game hitting streak into today’s game, along with .445 wOBA and .400 ISO against righties. He’s facing Clevinger today, who is getting hit for .411 wOBA and .206 ISO by lefties. Bird also has one home run against Clevinger, and while it’s a very small sample size, it’s at least worth noting.
Marcus Semien (OAK SS: $3,200 FD | $3,700 DK) – I always like “triple threat” batters in cash, and Semien is a prime example. One, he’s been consistent; fantasy production in 6 straight games (3 of which were double-digit), .354 wOBA / .214 ISO against righties, and a 16.3% strikeout rate. Two, he faces soft pitching; Shark is giving up .341 wOBA to righties and is only striking out 13% of his batters. Three, he knows the matchup; Semien is 7 for 17 (2 XBH and one home run) against Shark. There’s not much more we need to know here!
