Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown 7/8/2018

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m here over at the DFS Army with coverage of WNBA. We have a three-game slate today, with a long break between the first two games and the third game. As can be seen from the cover art up top, there are a lot of interesting plays on this slate, with Griner and Cambage headlining them all and Taurasi looking on up! Before we dive into the rundown, let me take a second to point out the massive win our fellow DFS Army member hall-d pulled off yesterday:

  • Phoenix Mercury @ Atlanta Dream

Once again we have to deal with a Mercury team with a lot of pieces in flux. Camille Little is questionable, with some hope she might be able to play today. Marie Gulich is expected to be back with the team today. If Little and/or Gulich are back, this should stabilize the Mercury lineup and reshuffle some of the value on the slate. Leading the way for the Mercury today will be Britney Griner and Diana Taurasi. They should both be highly owned and for good reason, as they are both in good spots here and have been playing very well this season. If Little and/or Gulich are available, then DeWanna Bonner moves back to her small forward spot and is in a good spot here as well. Yvonne Turner unfortunately will have to move back to the bench, which should take away from some of her appeal (although she’ll still remain a GPP punt). Little and/or Gulich will make for good punt plays if they do play.

This is a tough matchup for the Dream to stop the league leading Mercury. The Dream will have to rely on their entire team in order to pull this off. Angel McCoughtry will be called on to do some heavy lifting for this team. Jessica Breland is in a position to have a good game as well. Elizabeth Williams and Imani McGee-Stafford should have their hands full dealing with Griner. On the guard front, of Brittney Sykes and Tiffany Hayes are the main targets here. Each of them is capable of breaking out for a huge game here.

  • Dallas Wings @ New York Liberty

The Wings take on a flagging Liberty team today, in their second meeting of the season. As in the previous meeting, all eyes will be on Liz Cambage for the Wings. Cambage had an excellent game last time out versus these Liberty and the same is expected today. Besides Cambage, Kayla Thornton is in a great spot here as well.  The spot is not good for Skylar Diggins-Smith, but as we have seen before, she can perform in bad spots. Allisha Gray is in a neutral spot here and makes for a good cash play. I expect Azura Stevens to gather some ownership after her performance last game. Do not chase that performance, it will be difficult for her to replicate it, especially in this matchup.

For the Liberty, it all comes down to the play of Tina Charles. The Liberty have performed well when Charles finds her game. This is as good a spot as any Charles will see this season. Kia Vuaghn, Amanda Zahui B, and even Kiah Stokes will be called on to handle the size of Cambage. This makes it difficult to roster any of them, but Kia Vaughn should lead that pack. On the guard front, Bria Hartley, Brittany Boyd, Shavonte Zellous, and Epiphany Prince are all in play. Prince is in the worst spot in that group, but she is cheap and could be a potential steal.

  • Washington Mystics @ Seattle Storm

The Mystics have been great this seen. Even more so with Elena Delle Donne in the lineup. Delle Donne is the top play for the Mystics on this slate, and the Mystics go as she goes. aiding Delle Donne will be Natasha Cloud. Cloud is in a good spot against Sue Bird. Last time out, Kristi Toliver had a good game playing the point guard role, this time around, she has a tougher matchup but is still capable of performing in it. Both LaToya Sanders and Ariel Atkins are playable today. Sanders is in the better spot here, and something could be said about fading Atkins due to elevated ownership.

For the Storm, the name up top is Breanna Stewart. Stewart is having an exceptional season, leading her team and the league in scoring. Today she faces up against another giant in Delle Donne, and sparks should fly. Natasha Howard is in a neutral spot here and is playable as a GPP special given her price. Alysha Clark has the worst matchup for a small forward on the slate. Jewell Loyd is in a neutral spot today, and is capable of performing above her price on any given day. Finally, Sue Bird is in a poor spot, but her consistency warrants looks in Cash games.
