Blande’s Bland Take: WNBA DFS Rundown 7/17/2018

Hi there! I’m Glen but I go by Blande and you can find me on twitter as @DfsBlande . I’m here over at the DFS Army with coverage of WNBA. We have a strange two-game slate upon us, with one game starting at 1 pm ET and the other at 7 pm ET. Draftkings is offering just single game slates, while Fanduel decided to offer a main slate with both games. Both games feature teams facing each other for the third time this season, so there is a level of familiarity on which to build. Let’s dive in!

  • New York Liberty @ Dallas Wings

This is the third meeting between the sides. The top player for the Liberty today is Tina Charles who has an excellent matchup against the Wings who are allowing 1.02 Fpts/min to power forwards. Excellent plays are hard to find after Tina Charles. The Wings have been good defensively recently. The only other Liberty player I can recommend for cash is Brittany Boyd. The likes of Epiphany Prince, Shavonte Zellous, and Sugar Rodgers make for excellent GPP flyers.

Liz Cambage and Skylar Diggins-Smith lead the Wings. Both are in excellent spots, and are expected to perform accordingly. Thy are viable in all formats and stacking them is a solid strategy. Kayla Thornton is another player in an excellent spot, so too is Allisha Gray. Both can be used in all formats. Glory Johnson and Azura Stevens will be popular names on this slate. I don’t like them for two reasons: First, they’ll be highly owned, and secondly, they have poor matchups. I’ll let others chase them, and try to leverage it.

  • Atlanta Dream @ Connecticut Sun

Jessica Breland was named Eastern Conference Player of the Week, I can see the value in being underweight on her due to massive ownership. I like Angel McCoughtry in this spot, as the Sun are one of the worst teams in defending the small forward position. Tiffany Hayes is always in play, but I prefer Brittney Sykes for much less. Elizabeth Williams has a neutral matchup here and will be called on to put up a solid performance. Renee Montgomery makes for a fine GPP play, while I’ll take a pass on Alex Bentley.

The primary target on the Sun is Alyssa Thomas. This is an excellent spot for her to excel in. Chiney Ogwumike is in a good spot as well, and I will be going back to the well with Jonquel Jones here as well in GPPs. One of these days, JJ will win me a GPP! Finally, Jasmine Thomas makes for a good play here in all formats. She has a solid floor and a relatively high ceiling. Courtney Williams and Rachel Banham are GPP flyers only, given the poor spot they are in.

That’s it for this slate! Join us at the DFS Army for more content and access to coaches.
