Game-By-Game Breakdown

France vs. Argentina

Argentina absolutely pulled one out of their you-know-what just to be part of the round of 16. And if we look back it took a Lionel Messi hat trick in a playoff just to get them into the World Cup. While they have a few great forwards (Higuain, Dybala), Argentina just doesn’t have any play makers outside of Messi who is clearly their best DFS option as well. While I do think that France wins this game, Messi is clearly in play in all formats because the bookmakers actually don’t think there will be a lot of goals on this slate. You need to focus on accruing points and even if Messi doesn’t score, he’s likely to rack up points from shots, fouls drawn, chances created, and just about any stat category either site tracks. The real decision on this slate is Messi, Ronaldo, or both…sorry, saving that conversation for VIP members.

For me, France is a nightmare when talking about DFS. If you have read this article before you know exactly what I’m talking about, with that many good players it’s near impossible to nail down production. The most consistent option in the attach is Antoine Griezmann but he’s at a tough price point and likely still needs a goal or assist to pay off. I’m actually thinking the top target on the French side is Djibril Sidibe. Sidibe returned from a knee injury and played 90 minutes in his first World Cup match against Denmark. Better yet, he does everything I look for in a DraftKings defender (and he makes for a fine FanDuel play too) as he gets involved in the attack, sending it six crosses against Denmark and adding his defensive stats. Depending on your roster construction, Sidibe is a solid option if you pay-up some at defender.

Uruguay vs. Portugal

I’ll have to keep updating the Research Station on this one as Uruguay opened as a decent favorite and already on Friday afternoon the game is a pick ’em. I agree with the line movement and I have a hard time trusting Uruguay at all. They have a couple of fantastic players up front in Luis Suarez  & Edison Cavani but not much that impresses me in the midfield, which I think is the difference in this match. My preferred play of the two strikers is actually Cavani as he offers a little bit of savings and has actually taken more shots than Suarez. Both of these guys likely fall in the GPP range for me unless I fall in love with the rest of my lineup on a two-game slate.

Okay, I won’t take the easy way out and write up Cristiano Ronaldo, I touched on the major slate decision earlier. The VIP members will tell you that I have a man crush on Ricardo Quaresma, and that is 100% true and I will almost definitely be rostering him in cash games (assuming he starts). Quaresma is the definition of an accumulator on DraftKings, sending in cross after cross to rack up points. He also scored a fabulous goal against the Iranians and reached 4 DK points in just 20 minutes of action against Spain. The Portuguese midfielders and fullbacks are all really interesting in this match up and my exposure could keep going their way if the odds and total continue to move that way.

That’s what I have for you today, good luck and I’ll see you in Slack tomorrow morning! Remember, a ton changes based on confirmed lineups & formations. Not a VIP? Join now and use code “SNIPER” for 10% off membership.
