Trade 1)
Pittsburgh receives: Noah Hanifin and Pick 16
Calgary receives: Pick 15, and a 2024 1st round pick
Analysis: Basically Pittsburgh and Calgary swap spots in the 2023 1st round, and Pittsburgh bets on themselves and takes on a 26 year old Noah Hanifin for their 2024 1st round pick. Hanifin will bolster a Penguins blueline that needs a remodel badly, and the fact that he is 26 and in a contract year, could go great for the Penguins. If they contend and Hanifin likes Sidney Crosby and Kyle Dubas, then maybe he signs an extension in Pittsburgh.

Ottawa Receives: Pick 17 and Jonatan Berggren
Detroit Receives: Alex Debrincat
Analysis: Oof the addition of Alex Debrincat did not go as planned for Ottawa when they traded a top 10 pick to get him. They do however salvage some value by picking 17th in a star-driven draft, as well as picking up Berggren who is a promising 22 year old middle 6 forward with some skill. Detroit obviously picks up Debrincat to bolster their top 6, and will more than likely be playing with Dylan Larkin and Lucas Raymond for a while.

Philly Receives: Marco Scandella, Kasperi Kapanen, Zach Dean, Pick 10, Pick 29
St Louis Receives: Travis Konecny and Travis Sanheim
Analysis: From the Flyers perspective, new GM Danny Briere is tearing it down to the studs. The Flyers would now have 4 first round picks in 2023, and 2 in the top 10. Zach Dean is also a former first round pick that hasn’t panned out yet; and Scandella and Kapanen are on 1 year contracts that can be flipped at the deadline. From the Blues perspective, they still will have the 25th pick in the 2023 draft, as well as bolstering their top 4 defense as well as top 6 forwards. Konecny-Thomas-Kyrou will be terrible to play against, as well as having some offensive punch with Vrana, Buchnevich, and Saad. This is an eastern team tearing it down while the assets they part with go out west. Good business.

Winnipeg Receives: John Marino, Vitek Vanecek, Alexander Holtz, 2024 1st round pick
New Jersey Receives: Connor Hellebuyck
Analysis: From the Devil’s perspective, losing John Marino sucks, but you have Luke Hughes and Simon Nemec coming up as top 5 picks. Holtz is a promising young player, and a 2024 1st is not ideal to give up, but the Devils have about a 5 year window here to really push for Lord Stanley. Hellebuyck is a top NHL goalie, and the Devils secure their biggest question mark going into 2024. The Jets replace Hellebuyck, and get a B-tier prospect, a 1st round pick, and a top 4 defenseman that is under contract. Good business.

Winnipeg Receives: Pick 54, a 2025 2nd round pick, Gabriel Vilardi, Alex Iafallo
Los Angeles Receives: Pierre-Luc Dubois – Signs an 8 year $8.35M AAV extension
Analysis: The Jets clear up another anti-Jet in Dubois, as they rebuild on the fly. Subtracting Dubois and Hellebuyck hurts, but adding Vilardi, Iafallo, and Marino is not a bad band-aid. They also get 3 quality draft picks out of it in 3 separate years that they can either build with, or use as ammo to wheel and deal even more. The Kings add a franchise centerpiece, and have a window of contending until Doughty and Kopitar retire. Kopitar, Dubois, Danault, Byfield up the center is as deep as it gets.
