Hey guys, it’s Flynnie. You know where to find me, but if I’m not in Slack follow me on Twitter. This is more geared toward our newer members, but certainly could help out our more veteran members as well. Instead the of the “Forecheck”, I’m going to give you guys the tools to translate NHL DFS. There are all kinds of nicknames we use because most of us don’t want to type out a name that’s 408 letters long. This is going to be a short list of names we use all the time, I will add to this as we find more that I inevitably forgot to put in here. If you come up with sometime to add, just DM me and I’ll update this list.
Since you guys are already members, I don’t have to tell you how great the DFS Army is. But I’ll ask you to tell your friends and have them use promo code PUCK so they can save money too.
I broke it down into three categories: Initials, add a letter, and subtract letters.
Initials
There are a few guys with hyphenated names or longer names that just get called by their initials:
JVR – James Van Riemsdyk (also works with his brother Trevor – TVR)
OEL – Oliver Ekman Larsson
RNH – Ryan Nugent Hopkins
Add a Letter
If you add an ‘R’ or a ‘Y’ to virtually any player it can work. I.t’s more common with the American or Canadian – born players, though
Burnsy – Brent Burns
Kaner – Patrick Kane
Subtract Letters (most common group)
Ovi – Alex Ovechkin
Sid – Sidney Crosby
Geno – Evgeni Malkin
Bob – Sergei Bobrovsky
Vasil – Andrei Vasilevskiy
Pietro – Alex Pietrangelo
Bergy – Patrice Bergeron
Schnozz (or Nose Face Killa) – Brad Marchand
Senko – Vladimir Tarasenko
KuchieStank – Nikita Kucherov and Steven Stamkos (2/3 of the Lightning top line)
The Triplets – Kucherov, Tyler Johnson, Ondrej Palat. This was a combo the Lightning use a lot last season.
Ghost/Gost – Shayne Gostisbehere
Prov – Ivan Provorov
Rad – Alex Radulov
Pac/Pac Man/Patches – Max Pacioretty
Arvi – Viktor Arvidsson
Nasty Nate – Nathan MacKinnon
