JD’s Junk Yard Dogs for Draftkings NHL DFS Cash games on Monday Jan 22nd 2018
My Junk Yard Dogs is about pointing out value players for your cash line up builds that give you floor, but also leave you Cap room to pay up at other positions. They are often those low cost players who are the punts……or Junk …..of the possible options on today’s slate.
The theory behind this is based on @choppodong’s Bottom Up line-up building videos as well as his new video for people new to hockey DFS, which if you haven’t watched you really should. I am not one of the coaches but am really just sharing my own research and trying and give back to this community which has helped me out. This is focused on cash games on DK.
Remember, for value we are looking for players hitting about .6 points or more per $1000 in price in at least 6 of their last 10 games, as well as being lower on the cost scale. This isn’t to say there aren’t value players at higher cost, but the purpose of this article is to help you find those cheaper plays that leave you lot of cap room to fit in those studs you want.
Defense
For defense one of the things we look for is floor. This generally comes from consistency and for D in particular, their blocked shots and shots taken. D can often reach value on those stats alone, thus goals and assists are almost bonus value.
Nemeth 3900(Col ) This game in Toronto has an over under of 6. Neither of these teams has been great on defense, and both offenses can score. Nemeth has been averaging almost 2 DK pts per game on blocked shots alone. He has also been shooting a lot. This has led to him exceeding value in 7 out of his last 10. He is the most expensive value Dman, but might also be the safest.
Goligoski 3700 (Ari) This game against the Islanders has an over under of 6.5 and is basically a pickem. Goligoski has hit value in 8 out 10 lately, though actually scoring has contributed to that, as he only averages 1.65 DK points from blocked shot and SOG. He does get PP2 time
Hickey/Pelech 3k/3.1k (NYI) You likely won’t want both these Dmen, but both do provide value. Hickey has been a tick more consistent ( 8/10) compared to Pelech (7/10) but Pelech by a wee quarter point has the slightly higher floor and gets PP2 time.
If you really need that extra $100 elsewhere drop down to Hickey, otherwise Pelech is my top value dman of the night.
Other plays: Scandella (Min) Phaneuf (Ott) Green (NJD)
Centre
Soderberg $4000 (Col) is the only true value play at center tonight, as the only guy that hit the 6 out last 10 minimum. He has scored 3 goals and an assist in his last 5, and given the matchup with Toronto is worth your time, unless of course you are paying up for McKinnon who has been on fire lately. (Paying up at Centre is actually the course I would recommend tonight. Get your value at wing and on defense, but this option is there if you are looking for a value one off)
Other plays: Gourde (TB) Nelson ( NYI) Dvorak ( ARI) Zajac ( NJD). These guys are all more technically GPP plays, but especially with the Islanders/ Coyotes games might be worth considering.
Wingers
Its all about the Coyotes on this list, as Martinook at $3000, Fischer at $3400 and Perlini at $3700 all qualify with 6 out of their last 10 games hitting value. As said above the Islanders and Coyotes is the highest projected scoring game tonight, so any of these guys could help. I will say Fischer is my call as the best of the bunch, as he has the highest average in the last 10, and also gets first power play time. Perlini would be next and gets 2nd powerplay time, and Martinook offers the best cost savings.
Johannson $3900 (NJ) just made the list, so if you have a deep need to have a Devil on your roster to spread things out then you could go this way, but you the number would say take a chance on one of the Coyotes instead.
